Title: Brand new Fiat 126 column switches - only £30
Post by: midvillesb on May 11, 2012, 10:37:10 PM
So here's the story.

The column switch on my 1983 air-cooled packed up (the usual problem - sidelights or full beam but dipped beam contacts no longer working).

Trying to get hold of a replacement switch has been a real saga and I got so fed up with being sent the wrong switches, finding the right switches but at exorbitant prices etc. that after a bit of digging around I've managed to locate a manufacturer in Italy supplying brand new genuine switches.

I took a punt and ordered an initial production run of 10 switches which arrived today.  Obviously I'm keeping one for myself (fitted this evening and working perfectly!) and I'm going to put a few on eBay to try and make enough profit to cover the cost of my switch - but too much capitalism isn't a good thing, so for Club126 members I'm offering the rest of the batch at cost, which works out at a round £30 (plus whatever the actual cost of the postage is from me to you).

The switches are superb - Fiat branded and the original shape stalks.

Unfortunately the batch I've ordered won't fit the late model air-cooleds or the BIS - I'm putting photos and a diagram below but these have the 3-position light switch (i.e. sides, dipped and full) and 2-position wiper (i.e on and off!).  The multiplug connectors are 1 white 4-way male, 1 red 4-way male and 1 white 4-way female as per the photos.

The same company may be able to supply switches for the later cars but there seem to be at least two variations, so if you want me to look into ordering some of these, please post up details of the switch you want to replace (i.e. the number of positions for each stalk plus the format/colour of the multiplugs - photos would be ideal).

First come, first served - PM me if you're interested.

Sales of these fine switches have been a little, er, slow - a grand total of 1 so far in fact...

Anyway, I've now advertised some on eBay but they're still available to forum members at £30 plus postage, so this is just a shameless bump to remind you all!

Hi Mike (again)
I've recently sent you a message.  You have just reminded me. This was one of the problems I initally had with Tuxy.  When I was driving along, I'd hit a bump and the lights would go out!  I had a job trying to locate these switches eventually getting one (but its not quite the same) from one of the dealers on the site - from Solvenia.  It looks as thought it would fit Tuxy.
Once I've got the other problems sorted with him (see posting on mechanical problems) I'll certainly take one off your hands.

Thanks for the PMs - sorry for the delay in replying but I'm away with work at the moment.

David, I think I've finally tracked down the correct part for the later cars but there seems to be a number of variations.

Two of them have 1 4-way female white block, 1 6-way male white block and 1 6-way make red block, but one has a two-position light switch (I.e. dipped beam and full beam only, so presumably with the dash switch contolling off-sidelight-headlight as per the BIS) and the other has a three-position switch (ie sides only, dipped beam and full beam, so presumably the dash switch is just off-on).  Which of those is yours?

Ok, so I've got it narrowed down to two options.

Got the right connectors so just need to know whether the light stalk is 2 position (dipped / full beam) or 3 position (sidelights / dipped beam / full beam)...

2 position, high and low beam.

Thanks - if I'd had any sense, I would have thought to check the owners manual in the Subscribers' section...

I'll now order 10 of these (supplier's minimum) - hopefully they will shift a little quicker than the others, a massive total of 2 so far!

Will post here again when they arrive.

A shameless bump to go with my post in the mechanical problem section.  I've still got lots of these to sell...
