Title: Place for a subwoofer? (air cooled only)
Post by: Madejek20 on May 02, 2012, 10:45:20 PM
Hi, i was wondering where can you put a good subwoofer? i was thinking about the above the engine & build a box for 2 smallish ones, or just cut a hole in the front boot and use the boot as a bass reflex box ? Does these pioneer flat underseat subwoofers do their work ?

If they go under your front seats, you won't be able to use the back seats easily, so you might as well replace your back seats with speakers.

Think about where you put the second battery to power it first. On a 126 the lights dim when you turn the wipers.

i had two 8" subs a flat sub box, two twelve inch 3 way speakers, 4" mids with tweeters in the doors, 4" three way under the dash (in the footwells), with tweets mounted on the dash, running off a 250 watt four channel amp for the speakers and a  150 watt twin channel for the subs. the car rocked however this was in a bis and was easier to fit however the electrics were not up to the job as an example during a journey from wales to london i ran the stereo system continually on a normal car this is fine however on a 126 it resulted in no charge in my battery and no power to run the indicators or wipers when i got to central london where it was raining cats and dogs! my advice is these cars are not for the big sounds if you intend to drive in them. the other onus is they are bloody easy to break into and have the system stolen this i know from experience!!

mx-5 eunos seats have speakers fitted right be the headrest. Fitting a good small pair next to your head might be better than a massive set that will drain the battery. the car is an un-insulated tin. No amount of bass will disguise that, it will still reverberate poorly!

I've seen the sub in the front boot once, worked inside the car but outside as well, I replaced the backseats with a big wooferbox in my first 126 and will replace the backseats again in the current one but won't be putting in the big box again, but some smaller, more designfull (is this an english word?) option will go in.
