Title: Exhaust leak in manifold?
Post by: Amateb8 on April 02, 2012, 09:56:30 AM
I think my yellow Bis has developed a leak in the exhaust manifold area. I think the gasket is damaged on one of them. It leaks where the ends of the exhaust pipe meets the engine. The screws appear to be tight though. It makes a "ticking" noise where it leaks and is more pronounced when you rev the engine. There is also some emission escaping from it. It is scheduled to go to the repairers this week. Is it still safe to drive it?

I took the car for a drive yesterday. Apart from the "ticking" noise, it behaved pretty well.

If you know where the leak is, a bit of gun gum will seal it until it is repaired.

Youv'e never lived  :D , bloody horrible stuff, it is exhaust repair putty, used to use it on a split seam on my polo exhaust every year to get through the mot. Smear it over the hole when cold, start and leave on tickover for 30 mins, no more hole. Not great as a good permanent repair, but fine for bodging until proper repair, might fall out after a few weeks, just put some more in, be carefull not to squeeze too much througgh the hole. Used to be abou 3 quid from pretty much anywhere that does car stuff.

It is easy enough to clean off afterwards.
