Hello dear members of Club126,
So i'll first introduce myself, i'm a 21 year old student, and for the first time of my life i bought a car. A Fiat 126Bis.
Lots of people told me that it was a bad idea, i guess it wasn't. The car is fine, but there is things to fix on it, such as the Brake, which isn't working at all, The gasoline automatic, some leak of oil and water, a recent problem on the reverse gear, a Destroyed Exhaust :), non working pointer(s), non working lights, Problem on Fuel consumption(look like burning too much), A door to fix, a door window's to fix(the same by the way), Couples of holes to fill, and that's all i think :)
Anyway this was kind of joke :P I mean i don't really an expert on cars, my knowledge is very limited. But i am very ambitious about this "project". I want to learn as much as i have fun when i'll restore-improve it.
I just look for people ready to share knowledge and experience with me, to help on my quest :)
Anyway i already started to "restore" my car, and here are the pics of it.

The First thing to do when i got it home was to take out the seats, and floor which was very wet

I discovered so many things under it! even money older than me :) :D
But everything was so much funny, everyone know that rust is a terrible thing, and i was terryfied when i saw the floor(a complete part of the steel under the seat was missing) and rust was everywhere. I don't even wnat to talk about holes...

Emin : yes look like i'll be very busy... I am in Aydın, what about you?
Ciaoflyer : I don't know, this exhaust was already on it when i bought it, i just fixed it a little bit. The pipes are too short so the exhaust touch the engine, and the vibrations broke the pipes(again) so i guess it was homemade. I am working now on making a new exhaust because even if i fix it it'll broke again, i'm thinking about putting it a little bit lower like 1 cm.

I am in Istanbul. If I had a 126 I would have found parts suppliers and known right people for tricky bits and then would be able to help to fans in Turkey. Unfortunately I have to wait for some more. Anyway, there are some nice cars in Aydın. I think weather is relatively dry there, so not much rust. Good luck again and ıf there's anything I would be of any help let me know.

Emin, i hope you will find a good car. But be careful spare parts in Turkey are hard to find. And sometime expensive, at least for me.
So anyway here are the last update from my project.
The ex-owner of the car was surely a crazy man... At least the man who repaired the car was... A butcher... The fuel pump was out of order, it didn't pumped at all. So i bought a new one. Cleaned the distributor, and... Add a new seat from a Renault Espace.

I cleaned the petrol tank. I was rusty, had water in it, also a little bit of sand... but just little... :-X

The fuel meter. It doesn't work well. I tried everything but after the first quarter of fuel it doesn't show at all. Does anyone know why? Or how it is repaired?

When i put the new Fuel pump i added a "homemade" seal. Because i saw that when i put the fuel pump on the engine it was getting in(i don't know how to explain :S) I saw somewhere there were couple of seal so i made mine. But then i realise that it was normal that the little part under the pump get in when you were installing it.

Lately i had a big problem with my engine. After i installed my "new redesigned" exhaust the engine didn't want to start. i tried everything but no matter what i did i didn't worked. And also my battery just got crazy and kept getting empty fastly. So i asked my friend why it could be so, he told it might be the carburetor and the starter. After trying a couples of thing we decided to dismount the engine totally... And it was a good idea...

Anyway i'd like to know if anyone have advices for me. Or improvement i could do while my engine is dismounted.
I bought some pieces on internet. And sent my carburator to repair. I plan to rebuild the engine this weekend. I hope they won't be any problem thought...

Only thing i would recommend is removing all this cardboard tunning cr*p of the car and restoring it to an original state, i must say all these addons make it look horrible. No hard feelings, thats just my opinion. As for engine improvments, id recommend a copper headgasket...

You said Copper Head Gasket... i Just bought a full set of seals and gasket unfortunately... But i might get one... Could you be a little bit more specific about it? I mean, why copper head gasket? and the thickness, because i don't think i'll be able to find one in Turkey. :S

I just bought today a set of connecting Rod, a new clutch, A full set of gasket for the transmission and the engine, New rings and the rear engine spring(for mounting). Also i sent two weeks ago the engine to revision, to be cleaned a readjusted. I hope to remount the engine this week-end, hope it will work... 8)

I think because they are made of copper instead of cardboard they are much stronger re the overheating problems.

Because the customs regulations are strict nowadays, custom fees are three times more than the part itself unfortunately. I am looking for different solutions for the part i will need for my non-existent 126. So, good luck.

does anyone know anyone going on hols to turkey to pack in a gasket and send it off once in turkey? i think what you are doing is great carry on bringing the bis back up to running order. while you have the engine out make sure that all the points where the exhaust and brackets are in place and are in good order if studs are being used that they are good and if bolts are being used ensure the holes have good threads as this is a major headache in the pursuit of a working exhaust on the bis.

The engine just came back from revision, finally... The man who worked on it told me that the ex-owner trated the car badly, and the garage who repaired it was a butcher... The engine is in very bad shape, and i shouldn't expect or plan to tune it :S >:(

I changed the connecting rods, new piston rings, bed for the rod(that i couldn't find so i used Renault 1,4L engine which fit ;) ), i bought a spring for the engine(there wasn't one), a full set of seals for transmission and engine, and some more that i couldn't remember...
We elevated the car with my father to work under it, but still kinda scary to get under :S

I also painted the back of the car, and i am trying to rebuild the electrical system back there but... I don't know anything about electricity and i really don't understand what is what back there so, if anyone could lend me a hand it would be greatly welcome ;)
I expect to run the engine this week, a least this weekend i hope to be driving it, wish me good luck :)
PS : DAMN this engine is a crazy thing how it was even working!!! I love this car :D

Hi Naboula, are you using a Haynes manual to help with your restoration? There is a section on the electrics that may be useful? If you don't have one PM me your address and I can post one to you without charge, I've got three of them, people keep giving me them for free! ;D

Haynes manuals? Do you mean the manuals of fiat for repairs? i think i have one but... i am still a newbie so... And also i have a huge exam next week so i don't have time... :( But i'll PM you for more info ;)

While installing the engine we had big problems with bolts and bolt holes... i had to change like 30% of the bolts and remake some holes because either they were missing or the were as flat as a table...
Like the upper engine the bolts weren't fitting so we put a long M8 stick in it and completed it with nuts

Also i forgot to told, we had a problem with the charger, it's "rope" was touch rubbing the engine, we discovered that this was due to some bolts... the ex-butcher might have dismounted it, and while resaambling it, he didn't put it correctly, so it was skewed... We just dismounted the cap and refitted it, and it was gone :D

Just bought a used Ditributor, and installed it!!! Ready to hit the road after i installed the engine on the car, and see if anything is wrong... Wish me good luck, because this weekend we'll see if i am a good at rebuilding cars :D

After a long day here i am... Quite desperate and sad, but still i have hope... We refitted then egine and all the electrical stuff etc, but... the engine doesn't work, we tried every thing we could thought but unfortunately it wasn't working... So we put some gas in the carb and here it goes!!! So know the engine is ok but we fuel pump isn't working, it isn't pumping... When we pull on the gas tube it is like there is a hole somewhere and air is coming from somewhere... however we checked every tube and all of them are ok... so we'll certainly dismount the pump tomorrow... Anoyone has this kind of prob or any advice?

Did you check the amount the fuel pump actuating / push rod sticks out from the spacer and gaskets. If the Bis is like the aircooled engine, off the top of my head , the rod should stick out about 1.5mms on the low side of the cam and 4mms on the high side.

Are you using proper fuel line clamps? Jubilee clips do not close round and allow air in. Is the pump diaphragm ok? You have got enough petrol in the tank haven't you? ;D

Thanks for your advices Hazey and uncle but i resolved this pump problem quite strangely... Well the next day i just tried to run the car, and awkardly the pump worked!!! I think the "bubbles" or air may be caused by foam formed in the gas tank, maybe while putting gas or anything else... Anyway yesterday as i said i tried to run the car but it just didn't started. I mean there was a "click" but the starter didn't worked after some quite effort i sent the starter to an electrician who told me that the starter need welding(you know some of the coils were detached or something like that)(i also think of changing the starter, with an original one or from another car, anyone did that before?).
Anyway i just installed the starter and will try it in a couple of hours(i really don't have time for the car now i have exams... :( ).
Also yesterday i tried to bump-start the car without the starter and starngely nothing happened!!! i mean the pump was working fine but there was not any ignintion, can this be caused because there were not the starter?

The starter does nothing when bump starting, used to drive a landrover in Wales with no starter, as long as it was on a hill there were no problems.

When you take the starter motor off did you connect the 2 +wires together as they complete the circuit?

Just tried, the engine turn there is something "like" an ignition but it doesn't keep... There is surely a problem with ignition but i don't know if it is the distrib or solenoid, any suggestion to find out?

By the way, i just checed the spark plugs wires, i put a screwdrive in it and tried to run the car to see if they were electricity, and yes there is. So i came to this conclusion :
1-They current isn't enough, maybe the linkage are wrongly done, since i don't know anything about electricity.
2-The distrib or carb or something else config is wrong.
I'd like to here more advice if any, i hope it will work today... :(

Is the petrol new? Petrol goes off, if it is too old it will not work.
Can you find an electrical petrol pump? The mechanical pumps have to be in exactly the right place for tge actuator rod to operate the pump correctly, I am impressed with the wooden mounting block, but think it could cause problems. Could also be the pump diaphragm, they degrade when not used for a long time.

Thanks again Hazey, as i said Hazey the pump is OK now, it just work fine i i replaced the wooden by the original one and it ok now. I've only a problem with the ignition now, and i don't know what is it :S

Sorry i couldn't update earlier i had an exam yesterday it was.... quite good, i hope :S
Anyway i have another exam saturday and i really need to work on this one also, so i don't think i'll be able to work on my car this week... However i might be able to upload the last photos of it. Thanks to everyone for your supports :$

It has been a while since i didn't updated this post :D
Anyway here i am again, with my MiniBlueDragon(yes it is its name :D )
So after i started the car the last time i had a problem with the transmission's linkage flexible coupling(the thing between the gearbox and the lever). Anyway the problem was the 1st and 2nd gear just didn't get in, the rear and 3rd and 4th were okay we checked everything until i remembered a post, so i checked the linkage, and saw that the hole for the bolt on it were too big, i filled it in someway(i used copper pipe) and it was okay, so i just hit the road!!! After like 2 km the car just stopped. The engine was running but the car wasn't moving!!! After a couples of check i noticed that the flexible joint just riped off!! so I bough 2( better to change both even if not needed) flexible joint and just finished to intall them yesterday.

I still can't run the car. Some electrical problem, it is getting me crazy. It look like the car in't making enough electricity to make a spark on the spark plugs. I will get new spark plug and spark plug linkage to check them. But i think it it due to the coil :s

It was due to some bad sparkplugs, and the engine was drown :S Just changing them resulted in instant working engine :o

So hello everyone!!! At has been a long time since my last update. The reason is simple i was desperate...
In my last update i changed the flexible joint. But after a couple of run, the car did the same thing, the engine was running, the gears were good but the car wasn't movieng. So when i checked again i found out that the axles head just "ate" the gears in it. So i bought new ones one the internet. Put them in the morning jumped in my car in the afternoon and hit the road. After like 600meters the car stopped running. I mean the same problem(AGAIN!!!) i wasn't expecting that, the axles just exploded in pieces.(!!!) I thought about the reasons why it could happen, i finnaly found that it my be due to the vibration caused by my new transmissions support... I lokked on the net, and unfortunately i couldn't find any. So i just waited to find a way to fix this. 1 Month ago i heard from a friend that a burned 126Bis was "sleeping" somewhere. He gave me the adress and i went there. I talked to a couple of people, and i found out that the car was for more than 4years(!!!). This week i just called some friend we went there with all the requaried stuff to operate this car. and we just took everything we could.
Once i was back home i changed the transmissions supports, Changed the axles head(the original ones were much much more better!!)( I also found out that a lots of things are missing on my car). And now it is running again!!! Thank God!!!! Just couple of problem with the electricity, and a lot of vibration( i don't know why and i am scared of this)

So after a long time i must update this post :)
Lastly the car is working and running :)(Finally) Only 2 things are remaining, the electrical wiring which must be remade(thanks to me!! :o ) and the bodywork.
I also have a little problem with the engine running. At first the engine was just fine, and run smoothly once at temperature. However since a couple of weeks the engine is stalling at any time. Once i get my foot of the gas the engine just stall and stop. So i have to allways keep my foot on the gas. Lately i noticed something else, when i push the gas fully, and keep it that way, the engine just dance (?!). i mean it is like i push the gas and pull it and push again. However, i just keep my foot on it for real. Any advice, or idea why this might happen?
