Ok well first thanks to the members welcomeing me to the forum very appreciated :D
Well i have just bought my first fiat 126 and have got a plan as to paint interior etc but the thing thats on my mind is engine at first i wanted to put a bike engine into it but wanted to retain all the seats.
Then i thought of how to power the drive train? reversing it? etc i think you know were im going with that, then i thought of could i power the original gearbox if possable to rebuild it with stronger gears etc i just dont know so any information advice would be greatly appreciated and also it needs a lot of work sills front wing rear arches bit on the floor under the front windscreen i just want to bring her back to life so if you can please do thanks

can be done- http://club126uk.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6694.0
but you need some serious engineering prowess (As I dont know how much you know I can really advise)
most fast fiats are based on aircoolers as its easier to get a bigger engine in the back.
Im sure that plenty of others will have an opinion but Im being to not go the "dont bother unless you are chip foose route"- To do it without retaining the back seats you are gonna need to be good- to do it with retaining the back seats you will need to be awesome skills to do it well and safely
Have a look at the one above- he's ask £10k for it and im betting it cost him more than that to build it...

Hi yes ive seen that 126 as he put the engine to the original gearbox of the 126 as thats the problem going round my head im pretty good with cars but to be honest its my old chap thats got the brains lol if it was up to him the fiat would be spaced frammed lol with the r1 engine he got sat in the garage but i dont want to loose the fiat if you know what i mean the more and more i look at the car and the paint and seats im gunna do its like a love affair it strange :D i think im gunna go down the road of making the orig engine do bit more as i want my kids to help with it and then go on some meets with the car oh by the way im looking for some body panels if anyone got cheap or even better free :D sills front o/s wing rear arches floor i dont want to fill or patch rather replace
thanks

Bike engine you are looking at a couple of grand unless you can fabricate and custom make parts. Most end up on Ebay as unfinished, 'just needs gearbox sorting out' :-)
this is not the straight forward swap many people seem to think.
(a 911 engine drops straight into a beetle you know) ::)
R1 and space frame is being done in Northampton, you are talking New Fiat 500 Abarth type money :o

Hi i bet it is i going to tune the standard engine i think and keep it fiat i been reading a thread on disc brake conversion i would like some more info on this please i.e adapter plates etc thanks nice place

Fairly limited with tuning bits for a Bis. Lots on disc conversion though, try search facility you will find plenty.

Hello. I have kept this thread as part of my favourite. I also plan, at some point to convert to disc brakes. Lots of threads on this topic. I kept this link (below) for future reference.

You can do this to the standard engine by modifying the air filter I did it and it works but don't expect miracles. Sorry but some of the links are now dead on that thread if anyone wants details let me know and I shall post pics!

Markymarc, a forum member installed stainless steel exhaust plus an induction kit in his Bis. It looked gorgeous!

I know this was posted a few months back but I havent logged into the forum in a long time, there are a few basic things that can be done to tune the BIS 704cc engine but these are not off the shelf mod, I have added a few pics of my basic mods doen a long time ago(exhaust and carbs) but the main work was carried out internally modifying valves and flowing ports.
I woudl always recommend upgrading the springs, shocks, brakes and wheel/tyre options before increasing engine performance.

Brilliant! Where did you get your exhaust and manifold done? Double solex carbs looks great. Where did get this modification done?
-
The carbs are 1 1/4 strombergs new old stock from an Imp engine. I manufacted the inlet manifold myself using stainless tube TIG welded, The exhaust again I crafted it myslef from scratch right down to the internals on the silencer
cheers Doug

Old thread but loving the twin carb setup there :). What were they in the end?
