I wonder how may 126s will turn up - looks like we might have a chance of beating the record!

Just seen on Facebook from retro rides that they've just about sold out of weekend/camping tickets:

Quote
So we sold out of weekend/camping tickets. Which is pretty crazy considering it is only May. However we love you people so much we quietly added on an extra 100 so more people can camp. There are 85 of those left as of today. So if you are planning to come for the weekend I'd grab a ticket sooner rather than later : http://retroridesgathering.com/ ... day tickets on sale soon too (I finished fighting with the now shop software on Retro Rides site).

If you haven't bought your tickets yet, hurry up!! :)

;D Just bought a ticket , took about 20 seconds with paypal  :)
I think that the tickets are per person.
So it looks like "Pete's Clubhouse" will be busy this year , it's almost worth going just to see how Pete can extract a tented village from a Bis  :o
And if Bis13 makes it then you could be in for a treat , his lightly grilled sausages with a hint of WD40 are a ledgend  ;D

I had to have a look on the forum as I was concerned that I only had one ticket which might not let my boy in!  It's per adult, adult being anyone over 16 in their eyes.  Also, I was worried that I hadn't received my ticket in the post yet, but they're not being sent out until July, it seems.

I have a spare tent too that I can bring along if anyone needs one!

:D

Things got a bit hectic on the job front hence I've been head down saving my ass.

Both 126 and 500 have survived through it all but both are sorn, better sorn than sold I guess.

Will be good, I intend to drink beer!

I'm really looking forward to it...

I've got a weekend pass, obviously I'll bring some beers, but I think a couple of bottles of red could work quite well...will definitely bring a bottle of Strega...my latest discovery is 'BellaBomba'...actually very nice so if I can raise the spendies will also bring some of that.

Just need a tent...otherwise we'll be sleeping in the Fiat...

So has camping sold out? as I will be on my way home from Portugal with a Tent and Boat on my Roof rack, I think they should let me camp for free if I manage to make it back for the weekend just because of the mission!... do you think they will let me? If not I'll just set up camp by the entrance and pay for a day ticket :)
Wish me luck in not getting into any trouble on the way back through Spain and France as i'll be cutting it fine and if everything goes smoothly I'll be no.16!  :D

There is an outing to another hillclimb car meet called the Big One, see RR web site.  The tickets are on sale to camping ticket holders for a discounted price of £8.50 I think, might be an idea for the 126's to go as a pack.

Just managed to jack the car up to replace the outer cill.  Started hacking away to remove the rust, guess what I found a ton of filler looks like it is a bigger job than I had thought.  Need to see if I have time to cut all the rot out to MOT it and get it to RR.  Might have to cone in my daily driver.

Hi guys thanks for the support therefore I am trying to sort the floor and sill to get it to RR.  Just fabricated a repair section for the floor, midgies won tonight before I could cut out all the rot.  Hope to have most of the welding done over the weekend if the weather keeps up.

I'm not going to make excuses about rain, I'm simply flat broke  :P

One thing that has not been mentioned here is that although this is flagged up as a 3 day event nothing actualy happens on the Friday and Saturday apart from pitching tents , socialising and having a beer or two. The main day is the Sunday when there is all the action on the hill climb and a static display of cars. So if you have not got a weekend ticket you can , like most people who attend, just go on the Sunday  :)

Hi Martin and Veronica, we look forward to seeing you as well!! Will you be bringing some 126 bits and pieces? I am interested in a pair of tail light covers red-white EL priced at Euro9 each. I will use these on my 126 Bis. A pair of windbreaks.

I noticed on the photo of the "trailer for transport Fiat 126 non braked" with a 126 Bis on the trailer. It has an huge exhaust. Is it a sports exhaust specifically for a Bis?

Hi All,
I won't be joining you this year.
I had hoped to make it in my 500, but have decided not to come.
My wife and I had a little boy in March which has taken all of my fiat time and after pondering on it for a while I realised that I don't really want to leave him (or her!) for that long.

Steve - Rusty will sort things out with you on my behalf

I hope you all have a great time there and I will try to make it along to something later in the year.

The redwhite taillights arent available now, only white are now on store... :-/

Hey all!

Sorry so rubbish at keeping in touch recently - mostly because the car's been running beautifully for months (until recently, when I fried my battery and possibly the alternator!!  Panic fix going on as we speak!!).

I can't believe you're coming Martin!!!  Wow, I'll have to get your autograph!  ;D

I currently have a spare ticket and am waiting to hear back from 126Blackbird to see if he wants it.  If not, I'll offer to Abiella, and if she's sorted already.... I have a spare ticket.

Bar Vitelli - I have a two man tent spare, although not sure about sleeping bags...  Do you still need the tent?  PM me if you need me to bring it :D

Oh, it's so exciting!!  (and terrifying, and I REALLY hope the car works long enough to get me there!! LOL!)

One thing that I sort of am considering, since we'll be that side of the country, is hitting the Dr Who Experience in Cardiff on the Monday.  This'll mean finding camping in Wales, or asking to stay an extra night at the Retro Rides site, then heading over to Cardiff.

It's probably too much to aim to do, and I'd seriously miss the opportunity to drive back home somewhat in convoy, which I'm guessing will be later on Sunday after the events?

Does anyone else fancy it?  Website: http://www.doctorwhoexperience.com/index.php

Money will also be an issue, as it's not that cheap, but...

Also, what are the plans for convoying on the Friday??

We are cutting our holiday short and driving back from Dorset on the Friday morning to home . Then I will load up the 126 and head on over. Last year I set the sat nav for shortest route and it took me from here through Aylesbury to Bicester then turned off on a cross country route which was a wonderfull "back of nowhere" drive.  ;D

PM'd back... I'll take white please, sorry Lad, too slow!  :P lol

It's a fishy tent - literally, has fish all over it (thank Ted Baker!), so you'll be nice and noticeable ;) The front door pole got a little squished at one corner, but otherwise it all works just as it should and will keep you dry for the weekend.

Is there anything else you need that you know of?  I may have an extra sleeping bag, but I'm not sure - I've still yet to dig around in the shed to see what's out there.

126Blackbird has got my spare ticket now, so we'll be heading out of Colchester way at 9.30/10am ish on the Friday.  Will anyone else be joining us for convoy purposes along the way??

Hi guys I have been working hard to get the 126 ready for the MOT.  Just finished the welding, think I blew a battery when I forgot to disconect after moving it burnt out coil as well I think anyway got it running again.  Things left to do need to fix the reverse, fog and one headlight so I might just make it with the 126 fingers crossed.

Title: Campsite Rules, etiquette etc
Post by: Pete126 on August 15, 2012, 11:17:10 PM
Usual Rules apply

Campsite closes at 10pm
No cars moving after 10pm
Noise curfew is at 11pm
No open fired (raised BBQ's are fine)
and so on

There is a large skip situated next to the toilets and showers. Everyone will be given a black bin bag. Please use the black bin bag and deposit it in the skip at the end of the weekend. If you need more please come see us as we will have them. I have to say everyone was AWESOME with this last year.

Treat others as you would like to be treated, and leave the loos as you would like to find them!

Most importantly for this year ...

PLEASE - NO DRIVING AROUND THE CAMPSITE!
If you want to see your mate, or go to the loos, or whatever - WALK!
The camping field has had a hard time this year - i'm sure you've all noticed this glorious summer we're having! We're likely to get rain showers at some point over Fri or Sat and we don't want the field getting churned up unnecessarily.
Plus with more people, more kids, and alcohol about its just not wise. We want to be proactive rather than reactive here.

Most of all - be good to each other and have fun

oh, and take photos so I can have a look next week and see what I missed!

Keefy

Hi All,

I've just printed off the directions using the postcode (don't have SatNav), they get me to Gotherington but I can't find a campsite address anywhere, does anyone have it or will it be easy to find if I get to Gotherington?

We're defintely on for the weekend but Friday is looking 50/50 as I may need to work and have done no preparation at all so far.  We will either be there between 6.00 to 7.00 on Friday or before 12.00 on Saturday so please save a place for our fish tent (thanks Lina!) and hopefully 2 cars from fleet Vitelli!

Got the sleeping bags, a crate of red wine, a bottle of strega, some cheese, olives and a loaf of bread...anything else I might need?

Prescott hill climb is on a road between GRETTON and GOTHERINGTON, if you find gretton follow signs for GOTHERINGTON and STANLEY PONTLARGE.  Go past STANLY PONTLARGE turn and you can't miss Prescott which is a few hundred yards further on.  Hope this helps.

Just got back. It took over an hour longer than usual. There was a massive accident on the M40 involving five vehicles.

A lovely day. It was great to see everyone. It was good to meet new members as well. It was also fantastic to meet Martin and Veronica who made the trek to the RR. Nice turnout of 126s. There was the usual fair of stock and modified cars doing the hill climb. Trust everyone got home safely. I left my camera at home, so look forward member's photos.

I am pleased that the car behaved itself. Stopped for about 30 minutes to stretch my legs. Got back to the car. It basically flew - weird. I think atmospheric and road conditions (flat) were perfect. I was coaxed by two young drivers (lowered golf MKII and a Focus with xenons) to drive the car fast. My satnav recorded 85mph. The speedo needle was at 6 o'clock. The car did not seem to mind cruising at 80ish mph. The two cars backed off in the end. The drivers looked stunned and gave me the thumbs up. It was surprisingly steady. Loved every minute of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In retrospect, I'll probably not do it again!!!

Just Checking In, got back at 7.18pm not bad for a bis aye!

But I've got to say its been a stonkin weekend, you couldn't order better company to be with, I know that Martin and Veronica from 126Fan in Slovakia enjoyed there weekend and we are looking forward to our road trip to the Maluch World Meet in Slovakia in 2013.

A Big ThankYou, to all you guys and hope you enjoyed the weekend and got home safely without any breakdowns,

The Retro Rides Gathering has got to be one of the Premier Events on the Retro Car Scene, each year it gets Bigger and better but still it retains its friendly and family atmosphere, A Big Thankyou to the organisers David, Keith and the RR Gathering Team without there hard work the event wouldn't exist.

Once I sort out the photos I'll get some posted up,

Hellooooo!!  Yep, super weekend, wonderful people, excellent atmosphere!!  Nine 126s lined up today, great turn out over the weekend too of all members, whatever the cars!!  Lovely to see people again and to meet new ones!

Made it home just over an hour ago - 5 hours' drive, including a pit stop at Beaconsfield and the car was an absolute trooper for the journey!  Amazed and honoured by it's performance :D

Gotta go - shattered and NEED BATH!! lol

What a cracking weekend - it was great to meet everyone, sorry I didn't get more time to chat but keeping 4 (5 if you include Clare) girls under control, fed and watered is a bit of a full time occupation!

After a bit of trouble on the way down, the 126 was perfect on the way home (even after being stuck for ages on the M40 in the same jam that Angelo got caught up in), so I obviously need to use it more...

Many thanks in particular to Pete for organising everything. We're definitely up for it again next year and hopefully I'll make it to some other meets in the meantime.

Cheers,

Mike

Ey up...

Sounds like it was a fantastic event - I'm gutted that we did not quite make it.

We flew through the first 120 miles with the Vitelli convoy at full tilt with both the blue and the green car doing brilliantly.  As we got to the final 40 miles I pushed it to 60mph and felt a pop from the back of the car and a sudden loss of power.  I managed to free wheel to the hard shoulder but could not get the car started again.  I tried for about 1 hour and then called the AA who did all sorts until the chap said the fatal words 'I've never seen that before'.

Basically, something inside the engine had managed to cut (or crush) clean through the screw bit of the spark plug.  My big worry is that it will have caused some damage inside that will be expensive to fix if indeed it can be fixed.

To make matters worse we then found out that we did not have the cover we thought we had so had to pay £285 to get recovered (although we did manage to get both cars on the back of the truck).  It took about 5 hours for the truck to turn up and then another 2 hours to get home so we got in about midnight.  We'd not even eaten all day as the food was in the blue car on the back of the tow truck.

As bad as it was I have to say that the first 120 miles where we were tooting along in convoy was just amazing, the cars did brilliant and everyone looked in awe with people even taking pictures from their cars as we drove along!

Down - but not out - so we'll try again next year once we've got the blue car fixed.

Lina - sorry for not getting the bottle of white wine to you - I've drunk it now (drowning my sorrows on the Sunday) - so will bring you 2 next year to make up!
