i changed the exhaust on my bis about a year ago, a baffle went in the previous one and it rattled like a tin can, and now the same thing has happened with my 1 year old exhaust. Could there be a reason why its happening? my engine mounts are worn apparantly, will this make the engine shake more and cause the exhaust to break?
Dave.

My exhaust fell off the day I brought my 126 but it was because it didn't have exhaust brackets on! ::)

Mine also brocke a couple of days after i bought it. I fixed it, and even renforced it, but... It broke again. It look like the exhaust is too close to the engine. The engine hit the exhaust and it break it. Look at t :$his if you ask me.
I am actually :$ working on a new exhaust, totally homemade :p

Ours is getting rattly, but Stuey thinks it might be the original one. It has the bolt on brackets and Fiat stamped on it. So It ha'n't done to bad.

I have just come to accept that they are a consumable item like air filters and oil! In fact I think the exhaust costs less than an air filter and a bottle of oil!!

Mines broken again today annoyingly it was brand new only 2 months ago broke within weeks i welded it up refitted with correct brackets etc. And same again its even broken the brackets this time to!

Been thinking could 2 flexible joints be put into the downpipes allowing some flex in the exhaust? I might have a hunt for some in the right bore and get a friend to weld it in

Where do your exhausts usually break? I've only ever had the exhaust tip break off the muffler because it rotted away...

Mine always goes near the manifold, it always looks like metal fatigue (I learned that from Air crash investigation!!) :)

someone has previously given the cure in an earlier thread if i remember it right to fix a missfitting exhaust heat up one or both pipes until they can be manipulated or bent into a position where they fit well, on aircooled they are usually to slack putting too much strain on the elbow studs don't have expierience of bis exhausts yet ,hope to start work on one soon.

yes, we do that here in germany and elsewhere too ;-)
look here: http://club126uk.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5163.msg34934#msg34934
we do that with every exhaust, not only misfitting ones...

When the air-cooled engines, the exhaust "annealed" so that he loses the tension. So after installing the two pipes make the curvature of short red-hot, then stops and nothing more!
