Hello,
I'm coming from Germany, so my english is very bad. So I'm sorry.
I saw the nice projects of p3mp and pete126. Therefore I want you not withhold my project. Cause my car is running and I think, I get it road legal.
It is a Fiat 126 from 1981, but now it looks like an earlier one.
The front suspension arms is selfmade with struts instaed of the leaf-spring.
The pedals with Powerbrake and clutch cylinder is from an Alfa Romeo 33. Even the engine an the Gearbox,
Actually is it an 1,5L engine with 84hp.
But later I want to install an 1,7L 16V engine with original 132hp.
Here are my Online photo album with very much pictures and twovideos:

And here is a link to the video from the first roll out on 3 or 4 weeks ago:

I like the fact that you have kept the bodyshell relatively original. It is definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing. Keep up the great work!!

One forward gear and five reverses?
-
Nono, five forward gears and one reverse.
I turned the gearbox abaut 180°, cause it's not possible to turn the diff in her housing.
At this picture, you can see the position of the gearbox in original position.

I'm sorry I was being a little silly with my comment but you have done well. I have worked on many of these gearboxes which is why I asked the question about the gears. These are a great little box and I always loved overhauling them. Best wishes.

nice bit of work with the offset thrads 8)
-
Well done! I still remember the first (of many) of these gearboxes I rebuilt- it was in my Alfa Sprint and I pulled it all apart the day before the workshop manual arrived.
Feeling very proud of myself at the neatly arranged parts on my workbench the next day I opened the manual to the Gearbox section only to find it didn't cover the 5 speed as it advised you to take it to an Alfa dealer because it was "too complicated and required 21 special service tools"!!!!!!!!!!
I threw the nice new manual in the bin and it went back together just fine...
Great project- keep the updates coming!

Two weeks ago, I dismantled the engine in cause of an oil leak. So I changed the shaft seal on Clutch side.
Then I mounted the engine, modified the cooling system, so that its easylier to get the air out of the system.

And then. It pissed oil like before.
So I diemantled the engine for the second time.
And there was a little crack >:(

I didn't read the whole thread from start but are you going to get this street legal? I don't know about what kind of rules you have in Germany but with that engine it would be impossible to get it street legal here in Finland.
-
Hi Tate,
You are right. I want to get it street legal in Germany. It isn't simple and a bit tricky but I spoke with some peopüle from german TÜV, so I think I get it.
Today I sandblasted my flywheel and on saturday I will install the engine again!!!

Hello,
I stopped the oil leak and the engine runs again.

It's not easy. I spoke very much with the person which will check and legalized my car and I must comply the rules in german.
It's difficult for me to describe it in English.
It Germany is iz possible to get a special national permission.

Can you tell how did you made that front susepnsion step-by-step because they are 900 euros in Italy, and it would be cheaper to do it ourselfes. Also Could you tell us please from what car did you get that parts from ? Thanks a lot

Hi Madejek20,
I built the front suspension by myself. I don't used parts from other cars. I started with something like this:
http://www.buchmanntechnik.ch/medien/rundgang/lager5.jpg
Only the springs and shok absorber I sold by a friend.

Very good job Fiatos ! :) I would be much interested doing springs suspension in my 126 some time in the year aswell but im afraid it will be too difficult for me :(
-
Your doing a great job Fiatos. I thought about turning a gearbox up-side-down to achieve the right turning direction. Great sollution! Does it not result in oil leaks at some places... Did you achieve a 'normal' gearshift-pattern, or is it backwards?
I 'll be following your progress.

Today, I finished the new, 2mm bigger, inlet and outlet valves.
On the right side is the inlet valve as it comes out of stock. Original its from a Seat.
And at the other side it is in an optimized form. With an inner correction of 30°.

Outlet Valve. The problem was to find a Valve with the same ... in the correct size. So I took a valve from BMW which 3mm too large and worked with it extensively on the lathe.
Here is on the right side a picture of the valve is in the form of original BMW. I've just been ground down the outside diameter fits.
On the left side you can see where I turned(?) (Whats the verb of lathe? to lathe???).
the lower part of the shaft I thinned.
Change the radius to the valve plate down and and the valve disk I made thinner.
