Title: found the cause.

some may remember i had a cam that wore a lobe down when we met at the billing aquadome well i have finally got round to stripping the engine and found that at some point before i took ownership that the gear from the bottom of the distributeur decided to fall off and the owner obviously never bothered to try and find it....look!!

i now realise from the scars around the casting that this has sat in the sump and then somehow it has been caught by the crankshaft and thrown around and ended up lodged in the casting between the two cylinder bores... i am not sure if the casting will be any good now as there are two fissures either side do you think i should just risk it as after all its a spare engine and if it cracks and falls apart theres no real loss or should i just bin it? answers on post cards as usual. vote risk it or bin it accordingly ta very much people.

As long as it'll seal-up I don't see it would be a problem.

After all it ran very well right-up to disassembley ;)
