Admittedly i had a bit of a blonde moment, i didnt have to MOT the BIS. Turned out i have untill the summer, i thought i had MOT'd it when i had head gasket done! so i have time to sort out emmisions! do the little jobs etc.
I've driven my BIS to my grandmothers house (minding the salty puddles), she is kindly letting me keep it in her empty garage! (BIS hasnt seen a dry garage for a year)
i will use my pressure washer to rid the mud/salt stick electric heater on and let it dry thoroughly (for a week) then i will waxoyl it, i bought some kit for £13 its a pump that plugs into the waxoyl can. touch wood it will be ok.
Has anybody waxoyld their 126 themselves? i would appreciate any tips, on where to spray? which panels/areas?

i dont own a bis as you know
but i would waxoyl everywhere ... inside door panels .. arches, eveywhere
take off your wheels jack car up . ( cover your hubs though with old blanket)
just slap it on mate hehe

Yep everywhere and use plenty! at £20 a can its cheap insurance. That said 1 can should do the whole car.
Do:
underside
inside engine compartment
all under the bonnet
Inside the doors (remove the door cards)
Drill some holes into the sills and any box sections and get it right in all the cavitys
If you use clear stuff you wont even notice it once its dryed.

in think there are some little plastic plugs in the front wheel arch at the the end of the sill,there are on the aircooled,take these out and you can get right inside the sills to to the rear arch!.
pull the carpets chris,the floors are usualy soaked as well,i also use a dehumidifier routinely in all my cars,better than a heater.

Chris I know the old waxoyl was notorious for clogging the spray pump that came with the kit. It was recommended to do the waxoyling on a warm day when the waxoyl was more liquefied and also adding white spirit used to help.
But perhaps things have changed with the formulas, sprays etc?

hi chris,the guns always clog up but if you leave the tin in some warm water for 5mins it should be ok.

yep, it will clog the gun, as previously said do it on a warm day and add some white spirit too. also its a good idea to put the tin into bucket of hot water, I did this and it really helped.

thanks everyone for your help. im feeling more confident now, ytes it says put it in a wucked of hot water for 30 mins, + is says use white sprit if you have to.i might just keep the tin in the bucket of hot water while i do it.
the biggest worry is the the gun clogging up and not being able to re use it :sad:

hi,if it does get clogged up run some thinners through it.(white spirit should do the same job).then carry on waxoyln :wink: do the same when you have finished with the gun,or it will turn into a candle :shock:

Yes, keep it in the bucket of hot water, youll find you will need to change the water when it cools off, my gun never blocked that way. Your car will really pong for a bit after, its smelly stuff waxoyl. Must redo mine this summer, last did it in 1999!

im doing it to give me more peace of mind, i worry alot, about keeping it looking good.
Barry have you ever used the clear waxoyl?

I find that the bucket of warm water dosent work too well as only the wax on the outside melts, i suppose if you left it in for longer it would be better but i just heat it up on a cooker hob and that gets it nice and runny. Ive thinned it upto 50/50 in the past and it still works fine

chris, yes the clear stuff is what Im on about. The stuff you inject into all the crevises etc, the black stuff is for under the cars floor, wheelarches etc, you need a brush to apply that as its well sticky! TBH, Waxoyl isnt the best on the market, Dinitrol is better as is the 3M stuff. The waxoyl tends to dry over time and needs topping up, the 3M stuff seems to stay tacky for years. A mate once did a Morris Minor with it, which had a bang several years later, when he cut the sill off it was still as new inside.

Just looking through some of these old posts... what is waxoyl anyway? This was the first time I have ever heard of it. If its good, where can I get it?

hi Sam i think its called "Ziebart" in germany
its a protective covering, you spray on, also called underseal.
kills rust and protects, usualy black sticky tar like, also come sin clear now.

There are differnt types, the black stuff is underseal, you should first remove the old stuff with a hot air gun and scraper, nasty job. The clear stuff is better as it goes inside the box sections, cills, doors etc and all those places where you cant see the rust starting. It needs topping up every 2 or 3 years to keep it effective as it dries out.

haha just seen this post paul, i got it all in my hair :lol: had to rub it out with soap.
after over a week my car is still dripping wet with the stuff
i have just been to halfords to get som araldite, and spoke to a bloke who was looking at waxoyl, he owns a tipo. he said that you can make your own waxoyl, turpentine and candles. would be alot cheaper in long term.
