Title: Lowering the engine???
Post by: moo on January 21, 2011, 10:29:49 PM
Does anyone have any ideas on getting an air-filter to fit an engine with a Panda30 head and carb in a 500? It seems I've only got about 20-30mm to play with from the top of the carb </* </*
Would a rear valence and brackets from a 500R lower the engine at all?
Any ideas welcome, I did try a bit of gauze - but that was blown all the way across the garage with a bit of backfire action </
After a very, very long siesta, the little bubble is very, very nearly back on the road.... after all the niggles I almost gave up and reverted to stock.........................................

She will go.... and, goddammit, she will even go up hills  8)

There is a spacer available somewhere which you bolt under the mounting on the engine side which lowers is a bit.
500R valance wont lower it more than the standard.
It is a tunnel for air above the carb so a little creative block and hammer work might help too.

No doubt someone else will come along and answer with something else probably more experienced and concise than my 5p, no need to hold your breath it wont be long. :P

Use a typical air cleaner assembly, ie: base - that fits around the carb, get rid of the round filter bit and use a filtered top element such as the ones K&N sell, bolt the two together and you should only get 10-20mm total height [-/

Thanks for the replys guys. Darrell, it was a little bit of 'creative' block and hammer work that actually gave me the 20mm (don't want to overdo it  :-X), I'd like just a smidgeon more before I squeeze anything over the carb, just to give a bit of leeway with engine movement.
Think I may look into making up a spacer  [-/

Hi I fitted 20mm spacers with longer bolts to lower the engine at the rear to allow the panda 30 head and carb to fit in my 500 gamine, worked very well.
