Hey all, im new to this forum and just thought id share my project with you :)
I know there may be some haters because its not exactly standard, but at the end of my day its my car :) haha
Right i hope this makes sense, but im just going to copy and paste from a different forum, so bare with me :) haha
Hey this is my lil project/bit of fun :)
Bassically here is the cars story before I bought it!

It was like a 300 mile round trip to buy it, but it done the 150 miles back no problem! :D
When I got it I decided to de bumper it and it later looked like this:

Then I thought a colour change was in order, so started spraying it satin black

But got bored again, and decided to make it into a pickup :) as you do.

Its far from finished! But any tips or critisim would be appreciated, good or bad I don't care! I'm only 18 I'm just enjoying my self and having some fun haha, although it is a serious project and I will be making sure its safe!

Made up a mdf template which I will use to make sure the metal is the right shape and size, ill probually use a car bonnet with some curves or shapes in it to add abit of rigidity to it:

Still a longggg way off, and needs alot of pannel beating and welding and what not, but its getting there :)

But right heres some pictures I took earlier, and the photoshop I done.
I bassically put motorbike indicators on the front, some mini arches and blanked where the orignal hole was with a cut up icecream container :). Oh and added some blue LED side light bulbs because my dad ordered to many by accident so had some left for me! :D haha

Apart from the rediculous ride height and positive camber, I quite like them haha, but I will be going for wheels with more of a dish :)

Thankyou :D it will be lilac when its completely finished :) but when its the general shape it will just have a quick spray of pink untill it gets abit warmer so i can give it a semi reasonable paint job next year.
And build one! They are such a laugh, and no 2 are really the same so its all about personalising them really :) you could paint one to match your camper or something?! Would look cool.

Please not this isnt the final paint job, i will be sanding it back and doing some fine fillering to smooth it all out nicely and it will have a decent paint job when i can get it in the garage or it gets abit warmer :)

I like it budy, I love to be different so you go for it dude. I saw a black pick-up on e-bay a while ago i was tempted by but it was a poo job!!

Cheers for the words of encouragement :) it has got a little bit of hate on another forum, and i was expecting to get shot down on here because im radically altering a car you all love haha. But im loving it more and more by how personal it is becoming!
And a motorbike wouldnt have fitted in the back anyway, unless maybe a minimoto or a pit bike, but even so it would have been tight, its a pretty pointless pickup to be honest haha
But i had to do it the way i have because of the whole IVA'ing it will require, theres no test for a pickup this small so really it will never be road legal, so ive had to weld the rear up and will be adding a 'boot' to it for legal reasons so really its going to be a 2 seater coupe like a mr2, but tbh i will probually remove the boot lid once its all legal and just put it back on for MOT times :P.

It may not be to everyones taste :P but it definatly gets noticed! haha, its going to be satin lilac when im finished :) with black wheel arches and pickup bed.
And im actually in Portchester, near Fareham, but i thought id make it abit more general because not many people know Portchester haha. I see your quite local :)

i just hope you have a friendly mot man as that cutting bits off means a biva test if you are unlucky.

Oh dont worry, i will be getting it IVA'ed when its finished anyway, im planning a engine conversion next year too, so really it will be a new build so may need to be Q plated, but we shall see nearer the time :)

It only has wide wheel arches before i plan on some wide wheels and for it to be loww :) ill probually be removing the evil eyes.
The trafficators? Do you mean indicators? If so this is just for the mean time untill i install smaller "cat eye" stye indicators on the front, i feel the originals are slightly to large, but each to there own i guess :)

Yes either like that, or i will remove the bike indiactors and install smaller indicators where the originals would have been. Although i do like the idea of having a smooth front after looking at that picture :P

Yes i will be painting it in the new year when it gets abit warmer, i am undecided if i am keeping it a pink/lilac/purple ish kind of shade, or wheter to go with something abit more sensible, but i like to be different, I shall decide eventually haha

Colour is your choice but have to agree - not pink. Earlier in the build i would have said pink is ok, but the mods look better than i expected so i would go for a classier/tougher colour. IMHO you cant make pink look tough no matter how hard you try and your mods are going that way.

Cheers fella! I was thinking i may blend the arches in and paint it white with black weller wheels? I recon it would do it abit more justice but its still not a very tough colour but defaintly classier i think?

I did the same to a Renault 4 Some years ago. The "objectors" are hugely outnumbered by the supporters!

Thanks matey! :) exactly my way of thinking "dare to be different" ive got the time, (i like to think ive got the skill), the money and the balls to do it, so why the hell not!
I used to really be into radio controlled cars, and some of my cars cost over twice what this has cost me, so really now im older, instead of wasting my money modifiying rc cars, why not do it to real cars?! If anything its far more rewarding :) haha

Its not slammed yet, but its lower and i do have some negative camber :) the engine conversion will bring the rear lower anyway, and because the back end is lighter than a normal 126 it didnt lower it quite as much, but i think its an improvment :)

Looks good, did you just cut the springs down? If so by how much as I would like to do the same. Are you going to lower the front? Im just wondering how to do this on a BIS as it seems abit confusing which route to go!!

Yeahh i did cut the springs, by a coil and a half, it didnt bring the back down as much as i expected, but i think thats because it doesnt weigh as much as a standard 126 anymore, but im pretty happy with the ride height :)
I started the front yesterday but it didnt lower it as muc as i wanted either, so im going to cut down the coil mounting blocks, and i read somewhere about turning one of the leafs upside down? I removed it but it only lowered it half an inch, and i want to drop it atleast 2!
So anymore ideas would be appreciated :)
And thankyou! its coming along slowly, still need to tidy it up and it will most likely be repsrayed black now, im thinking of resale-ability, if thats a word haha

Darrell put up a thread with a link in it on how to lower a front leaf spring. Its the best method i've ever seen. Had a quik look on the forum but couldnt find it again. You might have more luck(time).
The black sounds like a better colour choice, hope your panel beating skills are up to the colour :oops:

Ive seen that page before! Although i havent got a fancy hydraulic press so id have to go for the old 2 bricks and a hammer method he was talking about :P but it is a very good idea :)
And they should be! I had a mini which i sprayed black and i was very impressed with the way it turned out for a first time in the garage jobby, and that was over 3 years ago, ive learnt alot since then, so fingers crossed this will end up better :) might even try and get a little bit fancy with the paint job, but that will be revealed when the time comess haha

I'll try using a bottle jack and a jig that i'll have to make.
I didnt mean to deter you by asking about your skills, its just that black is the hardest colour to paint. Good to hear the garage jobby will turn out well.

Well ive lowered the front again, and its dropped more :) i would like another inch, but i still havent trimmed the alloy blocks yet, so if it doesnt settle any lower after driving it i may do that eventually, had to cut the bump stops in half though haha.
I bassically just turned one of the leafs around and made sure it was secured properly and it seems to have done the job :)
And yeah black isnt the easiest, but as i say i sprayed my old Mini gloss black, and ive also sprayed my old Derbi Senda satin black, and i sprayed my Civic satin black aswell :) haha, i have a thing about black!
And they look amazing! I would be very proud of them, well done!

It's an interesting point. biva test is only applicable to cars. If it's class has been changed to a pick up then it can't be biva tested. Not sure how you get this through.

This will be a car when it is finished, im not sure whether i mentioned it on this forum before but im fully aware of the whole BIVA/IVA commercial vehicle problem.
I will be adding a rear pickup bed cover, similar to that of a MR2 so essentially it will be a coupe, but look like a pickup, im doing an engine conversion anyway so there wont be enough room in the back for storage.

it looks like this car is now up for sale on ebay with no mot no tax and the need to be tested as it has been altered structurally so all in all if someone buys it they will need to fork out more than the car was worth to get it on the road. along with that comes the added issue that the suspension has been chopped severely and i doubt that it will ride anywhere without fouling or rubbing at that height. it seems to be yet another project abandoned after ignoring advice from well meaning members of this forum from the outset. i feel sorry for the poor unsuspecting bidder that will no doubt inherit this headache. if this project had been completed and ended up with a completely legal on the road example it would have been saluted however sadly it is not the case yet again. if i offend anyone in making this statement then thats tough as in the first post it states any views comments or critisism will be welcome.

trike it. they make good trikes. and the msva is easier and cheaper than the av what ever it is.
better still send me the handbreak parts out of the hubs. and the cables, shame i'm not close by. as i would had it. for spare parts. :(

This is such a shame!
The project looked fantastic, although I wouldn't of messed with it in terms of lowering, but I bet it would of looked amazing when done :(
