:D Looking at GTMasters shout it could be a good week for MOTs as my 38 year old car has just gone through first time with no advisories [-/
Always something of interest at the garage I go to. The car being tested before mine was a supercharged Honda powered Ariel Atom. 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds 8)
It was an 2006 model & I read the other day that the new models are even quicker :oops:

But back to the MOT, it has amazed me how for two years now mine has sailed-through the test. The MOT tester was very impressed with the braided stainless hoses and disc brakes. He said the braking is alot more even than it was the previous year. I asked about effectiveness and the car simply popped-off the test rig, so I guess that's effective!
The one thing that is by my mind an MOT failure that didnt seem to worry them was my dodgy light switch. It got a bit cooked before I did the relays and needs a bit of fiddling with to get it to work, but they said it doesnt matter how the lights works, as long as they work. Although he commented they were better than the candles of last year.
The Delorto was the surprise, seemed to be well within the CO2 requirements although having said that, I thought it was running like a bag of spanners this week and tweeked it after noticing the points had closed-up a bit and the timing had gone out. Changed the brushes on the starter, wow it swings the engine around alot quicker! Alas the bellhousing got cracked because the starter had come loose somehow. This running a 126 as one's only car is trying at times :oops:
Hope you enjoy Hong Kong, I bet the weather will be just about right.
Hopefully get some more work done on the 500 this weekend. Parts purchases are put on hold for a while.

Choose one with double doors, at least it will be somewhere warm to work on the car in the winter. How warm would a conservatory get? (spraying, could be ideal).

OK I looked up my original account just in case you missed it ;D
I only told my wife & daughter about this a few weeks back & it cracked them up !
:yikes: Allright no laughing at this OK ! I had a new spray can of touch up paint for my car, one of those with the impossible to get off lids. I pulled hard on it and it came off but caught & snapped off the nozzle. I went back to the shop to order another can & the guy said just pull out the bit left in the can and use a nozzle from an old can. There I was with a tiny screwdriver trying to lever the little stub out when WOOOOSH ! Within a fraction of a second I had managed to paint my whole face and half of my kitchen & its contents Dark Blue :rant: At first I thought I was in big trouble as the celulose paint made it difficult to breath but once over that I opened my eyes & thought I could not see. I then removed my now ruined Poundstore glasses and looking around saw the devastation in the kitchen. Wife will not be pleased I thought so in panic started some emergency cleaning with mixed success. After a couple of minutes my face started to feel uncomfortable so went and had a look in the bathroom mirror. ::) Looking back at me was a rare beast , proberbly the only Blue Faced Bearded Panda in existance :yikes: Decided not to pop down to Tesco for cleaning materials as I might and been captured and probed by David Attenborough or someone. The only thing I could think of to clean my face was petrol so soaked a flannel and gave my face a good rub which had little effect & was not very pleasant at all. I then put myself under house arrest , psyciatric ward, and got on with trying to clean the kitchen. During the course of the day rubbing my face seemed to produce blue dandruff at it seemed the paint and/or the petrol had killed my top layer of skin & by late afternoon my skin was pretty clear . I was then ready to take on a new acting role , Bluebeard , and I had the eyebrows and fringe to match ! Much brushing and trimming toned it down quite a lot . When my wife got in she said "Oh that's better you always look younger with well trimmed beard & hair , have you had a good day? "

yh but rusty that ariel atom is the slow version theres now a v8 500bhp version with power to weight is 1,000bhp per ton 0-62 in 2.6 seconds wunder if we could get a 126 or 500 to beat it lol and top speed is 168mph

Yes I was only just reading about the new version a day or so before so I recognised the car straight away. The owner was a really nice bloke & we had quite a chat . He was trying to convince me to fit a supercharger on the 500. He has a couple of the Atoms which he hires out for road or track use. He even offered to let the garage mechanic take it for a spin. I , of course , challenged him to a race but on my terms . He was not allowed to turn on his ignition :oops:

Now get out there and make-up with a full body shampoo, polish, valet and full service to you current mistress before it's too late!

Good news: paperwork/registration is done and complete! Until now i used the car a few times without a number plate but only around the block (luckily no cops :) ). I only had problems with the brakes at the MOT: the difference on each axle was below 8% (second test showed 2%) but the machine showed that something wasn't true so i had to machine the brand new drums to pass the test :o I noticed the slight pulses on the brake pedal while braking but thought that with use it would disappear (the turner said that the braking surface was slightly 'ripply' but wasn't severe and was surprised that it caused problems). Anyway, i'm braking as much as i can now so that the brake pads will 'wear in'. Only need a wheel alignment and slight tweaking on the carb (CO was high on idle). :)
