Hi. My name is Ian and I've got a soft spot for the 126. We have had 3 of them. They are used as a second car and for Production Car Trials. I've got a wesbite www.fiat126.info. I'll try to post some pics. This is my first 126 Bis en route to an outright win at a PCT in Feb 2004:

Here is car number 2. I got it for free because it had a broken gearbox. After a year of looking for a 'box without luck I broke the car for spares:

Hi Ian, thanks for you post. I hope you will consider joing the club, i hav car stickers made up now, and tshirts which you get with your ?16 membership, considering the 500 club which i am a memnber charge ?18and u get just a sticker. thankyou for adding a link to my site, i have done the same for you, see the drop down menu. do you still do 126 racing? i would love to know more, can anyone race?
kindest regards.

Hi Chris. I'll pop a cheque in the post! PCTs are one of the cheapest forms of motorsport. You just need to belong to a motor club, no MSA licence is required, no car preaparation required. Entry is ?5-?15 depending on venue. Fiat 126s are extremely competitive being rear engined and RWD. Here is an article I wrote for my motor club when I did my first event.

And here is another report (by somebody else) when I achieved that overall win:

And the Fiat taking pride of place on our club's maagzine front cover:

Thanks Ian you won't be dissapointed, i forgot to mention that members get 10% discount from ricambio, on fiat parts, they are reasonable anyway but the 10% defiantly will help.
ian all this 126 racing is getting me excited, im going to have a good read f the links you sent me, i love racing, but havnt ever raced cars, fo you race against other 126's? or low powered engines? do you travel far to the events?

Hi Chris. It's not racing. Trials are a test of skill at traversing rough and slippery terrain. Have a look here:

yes sorry about that Ian, i read it after i sent that post. I would like more speed unfortunatly, but it still sounds fun. Have you ever done a time trial in your car?

Chris
hello chris! mwohahah its mick.
beckys dad used to be a MG TC club and he was telling me that they used to do an event at night where they created check points around a certain area (normally small rural roads). the other members would then be given a map of the area and have to reach the check points.
everyone would start from the same location and its a kind of find the fastest route to each check point... without getting lost.
if you had enough people this cold be fun around say burnham or taplow area.
Also try and sort out a track day strictly for 500, 126s. i know these cars are not exactly racers but if you only had the same cars racing it would be fun...

I have never used my 126 for any time trials, that is what I use my http://www.seight.com for. Some people bring out tuned 500s for time trials (correctly referred to as 'speed' events).
I have used a 126 for a scatter rally which is similar to what gorilly is talking about. In a scatter you plot about 30 points on an ordnance survey map, then the person who visits the most points in about 2 hours is the winner.
We also had a guy in our club who used to use a 126 for grass autotests - that is handbrake turns around a tight twisting course as quickly as possible.

HI Mike and Ian, yer that all sounds fun, what do you think Ian? a scatter rally sounds good fun. I dont want to sound like a boy racer Ian, i couldnt bare seeing my 126 impaled into a tree anyway. although there is somthing great about the though of racing 126's. I also own a 500 which im restoring. there are no abarth parts for the BIS which is a shame, not even an uprated exhaust. The events you attend seem more appealing and more of a freindly event, which would be nice for the club.
Ian would you be interested in a track day?
Mike have you got that pic of the leather interior 126? want to put that on the site. is this the same fphp forum for golf? so u logged in with your details?

the pic i have of the bis with leather seats isnt great, but its good enough. i will be going back to the ace cafe soon though for a BMW night so i will get some better pics then (it belongs to someone who works there).
the scatter rally sounds good, i think its the same idea.
Uprated parts for a 126 dont specifically have to be abarth, you could get other makes. I'm sure you could get a pancake filter from somewhere.
You should be able to get a better exhaust from lots of places. lots of exhaust require pipe bending for them to fit cars. a stainless steel system (full system) would not only sound good but if a bigger bore should add some bhp.
i expect it possible to get uprated cams (camshafts), i would have though kent cams would have made one but by looking at their website (http://www.kentcams.com/index.htm) they dont. try looking around on more european sites, one will turn up somewhere.
Then you can get a ported / polished head which adds BHP.
Does the 126 have a cat? if it does you could remove it which would make a big increase but you would have to re-fit it for every MOT.
Like lots of cars out, there are loads of ways to improve you car, make it faster and more efficient but you dont always need named brand parts.
lol think about how abarth came about! they made their own mods!
lol nah this is a diff forum, every forum on the web carrys its own details, none are linked so i ALWAYS have to register.

Hi Mike and all, good to see you on here, the thing is, the old air cooled 126 are the easiest to mod, as the 500 shared the same engine, and as we all know what was produced for the 500 engine tuning, Abarth and Giananini parts. they do great exhausts, up rated camshafts, modified cylinder heads, Dellorto FZD semi-downdraught carbs (panda head needed) thse have bigger venturis i think 32mm +, which all can be used on the air-cooled it is possible to fit on the BIS with time, pateince and money, as the right manifold is paramount and expensive. you can fit 800cc bores and oversized pistons into the standard 126 engine. Your right in the sense of modding is a skill and that we should do it ourselves, we can weld onto camshafts all we like but there?s something about abarth parts, let me show you this link
http://www.fiat500sport.com/def.asp?l=ENG&sku=19512D610C9
http://www.500mania.it/english/index.html
I spoke to middlebarton garage, about a sports BIS exhaust, and of course he said he had never seen one, but again these could be made, the essence of an up rated exhaust is the manifold, and the way the gasses surge out. Another thing I have heard about is oversized valves, and with view on a modified head a panda 30 head cant be faulted,
The panda 30 camshaft is also much better in way of design, and fits BIS
We could ditch the panel filter for a stocking over the carb,
Look at this http://www.fiat500sport.com/def.asp?l=ENG&sku=1952920C18
