Title: gearbox with overdrive
Post by: smallcox on September 04, 2010, 09:12:05 PM
Hi,

Engine and box coming out this winter so looking for a 5 speed gearbox, or kit, or broken 5 speed box, to fit to my car ready for 2011.
If anybody knows off anything I would be most greatful.

I will possibly buy a new kit failing the above, but is there a differance in quality between makes

I think anyone with a 5 speed conversion is going to hang-on to it like it's gold!

There are some available from parts suppliers but Bacca Romano is a serious 126 porn site

http://www.bacciromano.com/index.php?p=homepage&l=eng

They do a lightened flywheel which makes me dribble like Homer Simpson and diff and different gear ratios and...oops drobbling again..

Cheers Darrell,

I see the kit for 580 eur's and at that price i guess they are made of gold, but if i sell the wife's wedding ring then i only need to find 500 eur's :P

Yes they not cheap, but pretty-much in the ball-park for 5th gear kits.

I'd love to get one and umm do a Rusty (resonable pricing option) however if I get one it'll be in the car quick as a flash

The thing I like about Bacci Romano is they are one of the few places that do more than just the 5th gear kit, I think most are buying from them.

Love the idea of the 6 gear sequential

I will get one, it's in the budget, First things are some engine mods

Silly 500 is messing with my budget  :( :(

Now Darrell,

That Smart car that was borrowed from mummy is going to the toaster.

Should have connected my 5th injector and boosted to the max, but on a standard crank?(dangerous).

Now mods on the way for winter will see a major improvement in ponies.

I lost so much sleep that dam Smart car >:(

Check this thread. If anyone could give advise on this, it is the 126Fan guys from Slovakia.

I know on some Polish 126s with modded engines they use Skoda Rapid boxes, which are pretty strong in standard form, but these are usually coupled to 1.2 watercooled Fiat engines, so not the same thing, but would be worth considering. These five speed conversions just seem to be so expensive....

I was hoping to do things on the cheap so if I bolt two gearboxes together would that give me 8 gears.
About a spares co op I have access to cheaper parts at times so it could be an idea to send a bulk package to the UK and someone spread them round the group as economically as possible Just bought 12 new windscreen wiper blades this week so looking now for 12 windows Seriously though if its possible perhaps to save money on small items if they all went to one collection point. Anyone interested then let me know.

Now now, 126 owners are not known for their organisational skills or team attendance....

I fear we have to think small
