Title: Purchased first Fiat 126 today!!
Post by: Bolly on May 30, 2010, 08:20:44 PM
Hey everyone.... bought my first ever 126 Bis today.... and what an experience!

I picked it up in Portsmouth and drove the 100 miles home ... was really shocked to get it home without having to call the AA... the vibrations are really bad (have posted problem on the broken 126's bit!).  Think I have invented the next 'super quick way to lose weight'!

The body work is in top nick and the interior is looking good too.  Just need to get some speakers.  Look forward to speaking to you all soon.  Bolly

Hi Bolly , welcome to the forum , looked  at your posts and if you did not pay too much for the car then I reckon that you are probably in quite a good position if you only have mechanical problems to deal with & it can't be all bad if you drove all that way home . However my guess is that it is a transmission problem as the gearbox can self destruct once it starts to go wrong. If it was an engine problem that was that bad then you would probably made it so far. Can you engage all gears OK  ???

Hi Rusty, thanks for the reply.  The car has done only 7,500 miles and cost £670, body work is rust free and wax oiled from new.  The original owner had engine problems from new which meant it was left for a number of years unused.  The last owner replaced the engine with a used unit of unknown mileage, which i think is causing the problems.  The gears are really smooth, no problems there.  My other half wants to know if there is a balance shaft in the engine?  Many thanks Bolly x

welcome, perhaps the vibrations are something to do with the engine mounting or something touching the bodywork.
