I am looking for a pair of headlight protectors. I managed to buy a pair of RHD headlights in v.good conditions from a breakers yard. I reckon the protectors will stop the headlights from rusting.
-
i won them off ebay, they look like ur cars got a mask on lol but they hold your head lights in aswell and yes i think they will help protect them from rusting aswell, theres a guy selling them on euro ebay(i think or he was) for 20 euros, we asked him how much postagewas to england was 20 euros for postage, so it would cost 40 euros for 2 headlight protectors
-
126fan.sk has them 8) just click here (http://www.126fan.sk/eshop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10_13&products_id=503)
-
do they fit UK cars????
-
If you have got a good set of headlamps I would give them a good clean at the back , mask off the glass and the bulb mount hole then give them a good spray with something like Waxoil underseal or stonechip. When you fit them make sure you have the rubber boots over the bulb mount assembly. Also DO NOT throw away any RHD lenses as they can be recycled [-/

Good idea Rusty, I think those 'protectors' would just help to keep the headlam that bit wet-er for longer.
Might stop the grit from getting into the boot though
-
;D Now look here Darrell I am guessing that those headlamp things are designed to close that gap between the lense and the front panel to keep it sealed . Will not protect the headlamp itself and they are also not contraceptives as we all know that that grit in your boot will make you limp.
-
They do help keep some of the water/dirt out of the boot and behind the light, they also make the area around the headlight look smooooth :D

Pete126, many thanks. I have ordered a pair. I agree it does offer some protection.
-
Rusty, do you mean literally spary waxoyl on the exterior (rear) of the headlamps to stop it from rusting?
-
Pete126, did you paint your bumpers and side mirrors?
-
Yes that would be the general idea , anything that will protect & keep any moisture at bay.
-
Pete126, did you paint your bumpers and side mirrors?
Just tided them up with PlastiKote satin black car spray [-/
-
I tend to use Daz myself for a tidy job [-/
As to the headlamps a "hard" coat paint will break down along with the coating on the reflector . A tough and more flexible cover or a penetrative corrosion resisting coating may be better and if you have the headlamp back covers fitted then nothing nasty will rub off on your best frock

Does the headlight protectors replace the original headlight rubber frames?
-
I just got the headlight protectors from 126gfan.sk. Pete126 is correct, it does offer protection to the boot and headlamp. Tried it on one headlight. It clipped on quite nicely to the headlight. It closely fit the headlight and the rubber mask snuggly fit the headlight area completely. So, it will offer good protection i.e. stop dirt and water coming into the boot and the headlamps being soaked with water. I highly recommend a "buy" on this item.
-
Unfortunately, the headlight protectors I bought are in fact not a perfect fit and is different to the picture I posted which I think was the original design.
-
Thats ussual problem with aftermarket once. If you want I can have a look in poland for original pair - done by stomil (the same company which makes tyres). They are cheap like a bottle of water and fits perfect and tight.
-
Yes, please.
-
I did the same as Amateb8, but they havent arrived yet (getting a little concerned).
Thats a shame that they dont fit well Amateb8, frustrating when your chasing a certain look and you dont get it.
But, if they look like the ones on Pete126' car then that aint so bad.
-
There appears to be many variants of these out there. There is even one being auctioned in the Italian ebay (also a different design but much better looking). Unfortunately, the one I recently acquired was no were near Pete126's headlight protector look and finish. The one I received was much wider on one side and is almost flat (as a cardboard) in appearance i.e. it did not follow the contour of the headlight surround and space. It needed reshaping but any attempt to reshape the rubber frame would immediately show. There is also a wire underneath the frames that keep it rectangular in shape, so quite restricted if you opt to reshape the rubber frames.
-
Do they look like this Amateb8 ???
-
::) They dont stop the rust but they are designed to protect area under the bonnet from water , dust and funny noise.
I never had the time to get one of those. Allways keep old RHD lenses because you an not buy new RHD headlamps and you can try cut off RHD lenses and adapt to new LHD headlamps. ;D
-
Hopefully, Jan can find the proper ones.
-
Did some researches already. Will have more details tomorrow. These are cheap but as you need STOMIL once they are rare these days.
-
Jan, did you manage to find one?
-
No any worth having :( looks like it disappeared completly. I will call my brother on Monday, maybe then....
-
i've just ordered some headlamp-frames, from axel gerstl - how would i go about fitting them?
-
Did you get one of these. I got mine from 126fan.sk.
-
no: they're these: http://webshop.fiat500126.com/index.php/katalog/artikelinfo/1512-1-headlamp_frame_left_plastic.html - will these fill the hollow around the headlamps [between light and body], or have i ordered the wrong part?!?! :o
-
They are the standard surrounds that are fitted to the 126 which you have on the car already, the one that fill the space are the ones in the picture that Amateb8 posted.
-
It is the rubber part behind the headlight. If you carefully pull the headlights out, you should see the rubber surrounds. The headight protectors I posted is supposed to be installed externally i.e. over the headlight.
-
Amateb means this :) have a look. BTW Amateb - there is one pair in a very good nick on my rally one..... :D :D :D :D :D
-
groovy. that wasn't an original, factory-part, right?
-
They come in different shapes and sizes. I just recently bought another one from the Italian ebay. It is made of hard plastic and sits just outside the light sockets, so the front looks like Harry Palmer (The Ipcress File). There are others out there countoured to fit around the headlights. Unfortunately, as always not of them fit perfectly and may need some adjustments/alterations. I now have three pairs of these. I saw Pete126's version which he got from 126SKfan (I have got this one also) and he has done a very good job of fitting his, so I will have another go at mine.
-
The headlight protectors appear to come as standard on the post 1993 126ELX models. They appear to be a better fit.
