Title: 126 Bits & Bobs
Post by: Rusty's Uncle on January 31, 2010, 08:58:05 AM
:) Over the years , apart from owning & running a number of 126s , I have also dismantled a couple of write off cars. I never throw anything away unless it is scrap & many popular parts have been sold either through want ads on this forum or eBay. I have lost track of the countries I have shipped to but they include the US & Oz. I have a part dismantled air cooled in my garage which is due for it's final strip down in the near future. a few bits are spoken for already plus I will be keeping parts that will fit my Fiat 500. Despite this there should be some parts up for grabs. So no part is too small or too large , just let me know if you need anything  [-/

Hello. Have you got used rear trailing arms in good condition for a 126? I also need that part behind the drums attached to the rear trailing arms.

Have you got any chrome trim bits? (Windscreen and side window trim, door handles, bonnet lock, wiper arms etc.)

No spare starter motors at the moment in fact I bought spare 500 & a 126 cable pull types on eBay as back up spares . Also you can buy new all of the parts you need to overhaul a knackered one so with a little forward planning they are no problem.
I am not sure , until I get them off , what the condition of the rear suspension arms & I assume you are referring to the brake backing plates are but you can get a brand new pair of each for about 100 euros + carriage which I guess would be better than getting a rusty old set and paying to have them blasted & powder coated.
Some ones' got a thing for bling then  ;) when you say chrome door handles are you talking about the outer ones that have the stainless centre handle ?
Side window trim is alluminium unless you are talking about quarterlights on some cars and do you mean engine cover lock ?
Looking for wiper  parts , may have some stainless ones  [-/

Yes, it is the brake backing plate I was referring to. My other 126's brake backing plates on the front and rear are knackered. I did not know you could still buy them, thought the plated were welded to the trailing/control arms. Many thanks. I would have been lost without the help of forum members like yourself. Many thanks again.

Checked out Axel Gerstl. It brake backing plates are Euro39 each excl pp.

Hello. It might be useful to list all the bits and bits you have for sale. I may want to buy some items as spares.

Sadly as a long time car nut / enthusiast if I started to make a list of parts that I have I would probably get it sorted in about a year , if I had no distractions  ::)
Then if an item sold the list would be out of date
My list would include generic classic motor parts like Lucas etc, pre war Talbot , Sunbeam Talbot , Hillman parts . Later Austin Healey , MG , Morris & Austin then I could start on the Fiat 500 & 126 list.
Do not worry because I have been asked for lists so many times for different car makes over the years but as an enthusiast as opposed to a computer controlled motor factors it just ain't possible but if you have busted that little clip that is behind that special grommet then I might just have it  :)

hi, do you have a good used 650 camshaft by any chance?

 >:( Saw point that , I have now been sent three "126" camshafts and they are all either 500 or early 594ccs ones which are identical so my budget engine rebuild is still on hold  :(

oops, sorry to hear that. Where did you order them from?
Title: Re: 126 Bits & Bobs
Post by: Rusty's Uncle on February 25, 2010, 03:28:56 PM
The first one was sent to me for free by a very kind member of the forum after I posted a want ad here. Bloody good bloke , won't name and embarass him here but he was a great lad for doing that  [-/
It was from a 126 engine but turned out to be a 594ccs.
2nd was sold on ebay as a 652ccs but was also 594ccs, 3rd was a replacement for the 2nd & has also turned out to be 500/594ccs  :o
I won't name & shame as I have not even told them yet

in fact i've spend a bit of time going through ebay ads for camshafts. Many - even specialists - list 500/126 650cc cams as if these are identical! I must be very careful i suppose.

There are also two versions of the 652ccs camshaft. If I was doing a flash rebuild I would buy a new one but I am doing a "good used part" rebuild on a £25 engine I got from eBay . It had only just had a major rebuild but the guy blew out the rear main bearing & knackered the crank . I just wanted to try a 652ccs cam in a 499ccs engine  :D

if i don't get anywhere, are you happy to sell me the 595cc camshaft? Let me know.

Had the Haynes , Autobook & factory 500 manuals out again. I find it impossible to get a clear line on this as some books refer to cam lift and some to valve lift which will be different due to the offset on the rocker arm centre. There seem to have been a number of different 500 cams with the latter one being used in the 594ccs engine then changed again with the 652ccs then again in May 1985 .

That is a part that is specific to the Bis engine so I would not have that.

OK so I seem to have failed to have any of the parts you guys want so far , I was thinking about some of the smaller parts , but I do have an aircooled front bumper assembly , a bonnet & a pair of doors that have been stripped ready for restoration  [-/

How good are the doors Rusty?
Mine were completely shot and I ended-up welding bits into the bottom of the doors to make them semi-sold.

Hi Darrell , They have got a bit of rust along the bottom seam which I think is an easy resto and there are no major dents  [-/
