Title: 1983 Aircooled
Post by: Eklipze3k on January 20, 2010, 05:46:17 PM
Reluctantly I'm going to have to let the little black one go, the other half has lost her job and as I'm still unemployed we're desperate to raise some cash.

Pictures first:

Not currently taxed but MOT'd until April 2010. The engine runs but thew starter cable snapped and I think the starter is on the way out too, so be aware that this may need replaced. The 'sports' exhaust has a huge crack in it so could do with being replaced or changed back to original. The reason for the crack? Well, at some point in it's life the exhaust manifold bolts have threaded the head and were drilled out to accept larger bolts. These, unfortunatley worked themselves loose on my last trip and all the shaking caused the exhaust to snap in half.

So in summary, it works well and with some care and attention could be a short-trip hopper again with minimal work. Will come with any spare bits and pieces I happen to find including an original Haynes manual.
Looking for £300 or best offer, will need trailered/transported away of course.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Darrell, I'm kind of gutted but needs must.

Jan's pm came through first, and I just want to apologise to all of you as I noticed I'd put the wrong amount in the advert, I've amended now so please PM again if you're still interested.

With those wheels and that paint job, I'd have thought it was worth alot more than 300...

If it was a runner I'd agree, but as it's not and I'm not 100% on what is needed to get her back on the road I think £300 is a more than fair price

Believe me, once I have a stable job it'll be one of the first purchases I make so I'll be sticking around on here for sure :)

Just been collected today by the new owner, Martin (kartman). Sad to see the little fella go but glad he's gone to someone who'll be making use of him. :)

I didn't get it ciao :) :) :) for simple reason. I asked once on the forum for Eklipze number, twice in PM and after I did give up :(
Shame as I had a very good, future plan for it. But no replay - no deal done really. Even if my PM was first.....
But good it went to a good home, we will see it here anyway so happy ending.

Was the buyer a forum member? It would be good to know what he does with your car.

Hi guys, i am the new owner of Frazer`s car and can confirm it's gone to a good home.

Once the starter and other bits and pieces are sorted, I will be using daily to commute to work (~40 mile round trip). My wife will be learning to drive in it (although she may be in for a culture shock as her instructor has a BMW mini).

She is currently deciding on a name for a car. I'm favouring Massimo to keep in with its Italian roots. She's leaning towards Tobermory. She is also drawing up plans to add loose seat covers to the front to protect the original interior.

As she is a Cath Kidston fan, I'm dreading it ;)

She has promised they can come off when we go to events in it though.

Thanks Chris, we will be attending some events in it, need some bits and bobs are there any good UK suppliers apart from Ricambio?
I know my way around these having had several 500`s and a 126, the last one being 15 or more years ago............Martin

Here are two suppliers which I have used on a number of occassions. My experience with these suppliers have been good. I am not sure if other forum members share my view.

Axel Gerstl
https://webshop.fiat500126.com/?PATH_INFO=/katalog/showarticles/240203-2-underbody_und_sills.html&

Handels GmbH
https://www.fiatclassic.com/

Proietti Limited is another UK supplier like Ricambio but like Ricambio are expensive.

Thanks for that, not been to the second of those two sites, some good stuff on there at good prices too, front wings look cheap, once the car is up and running again i may pick a n/s one up as the one on the car is going very scabby round the front part of the arch........Martin

It's sad to see one like that go but at least it will be loved. The wheels that is has, were they 12 or 13 inch.

The engine is out of the 126 at the moment as the starter motor was hanging off when i picked it up, the lower starter bolt threads are damaged and the top bolt was sheared off in the block. The only way to get the bolt out which was sheared level with the engine block was to remove the engine, i am busy putting up a 24`x12` workshop but may get a chance to attack the bolt this weekend, probably have to be drilled and a stud extracter used. The n/s front wing is looking very secondhand now with rust so i will be fitting a replacement also looking for a reasonably priced starter motor, this one seems to work intermitantly, probably just the brushes........Martin

The broken bolt has now been removed but all four exhaust elbow threads will need helicoiling, there was only one bolt holding the rear elbow to the head and the other was very loose and bent, you probably couldn`t hear the blow over the noise from the Breada </
Will be putting a stock exhuast back on it and will weld the crack in the Breada up and put it up for sale on here. I love these cars, engine disconnected and out in 40 mins, i`m sure others have done it quicker. It has a lot of oil sprayed around it which i assume came from the loose fitting dipstick, i will get a repacement rubber for it off ebay and clean the engine up for the moment before putting it all back, hopefully within the next couple of weeks (other projects on the go as well). This will be the last update on this part of the forum, i will post more on the main part rather than the for sale section.........Martin
