I've noticed that as well. Not that the parts are too expensive compared to other cars but probably a few years ago (say 5-6) you could most of the stuff a lot cheaper (even from the breakers). I was surprised when buying suspension components at the shop e.g. a pair of front shock absorbers for the equivalent of 30 pounds...

Shucks they want over £50 for Front shocks here!

I have noticed the absence of one of the people who normally sell on e bay, perhaps it is now the one supplier on there thinks he can put his prices up! :o

:) I do not mind shocking you guys for £30 , buy one get one free  </4 </4 </4

On a more sensible note , Darrell , I think that you might have to be prepared to push your shopping trolley a little further these days to get good prices , may have some news on that in the near future if my ship comes in OK

Know what you mean about those prices though  [-/

I never understand it when they say that "it'll still be a fiat 126 with all that money put into it" and that "it's not worth it". Crazy talk... At the moment i have "more brains than money" because all the money's gone into the car  :D

Think I have probably spent in the region of about £2000 ...maybe more on spares etc for mine.
What the heck, it isn't on finance and it keeps one out of trouble.

My madness has included central locking, alarm electric windows, seicento seats, alloys which were hastily bought and meant I ended-up having to widen the wheel arches. Sports exhaust, electronic ignition, ultra bright headlamp bulbs lighting relays etc etc the list is kind of endless. Anything suspect has been simply changed.

I keep breaking things which were on the car originally, the way I see it is it'll eventually be mechanically virtually new.

I've binned the electric windows now. Something about electric windows doesnt get-on with 126 winders and they stripped themselves...

What the heck, I have £8grand worty of bike sitting in the shed that doesnt see any use in winter but the 126 keeps plodding all year long.
The only issue now is to try fix the fuel consumption coz wifey has noticed....it seems more expensive to run than the company diesel wagon...

Hi Darrel,

do you run your 126 everyday? im surprised its not as economical as your diesel.

I think £2k isnt bad at all, considering what some people spend their money on, with prices rocketing it can only be an investment see it like that!  ;D

Hi Chris,
I run my 126 every day on about a 15 mile round trip twice a day intermittently, like three to four days a week. I think the motorway bit which is about half of the trip is killing the fuel consumption. You know how it is, boot gets very heavy when the mad morning rush is on.
If she stays under 60 she isn't too bad but over that and you'd be lucky to see 100 miles out of a tank.
Best I've seen is about 140 miles per tank till the light comes on, filling it with about 15 to 16 quid.

I'm driving like a granny and wearing light shoes now so we'll see how we go. Christian motoring I think they call it  ;D
Thinking the carb might be duff although had it apart and it looks ok.
At last MOT in september she was on 43911.... think she's gone to about 47 or 48000 now.
I'll let you know how this next tank goes, but I think a new carb is inevitable. Everything else has been replaced so..

yer not the best MPG, sounds like it needs tuning, carn miht be overfueling

they love a good run, more you use them the more reliable they become!!! When theyre garaged and not used thats when they start running badly.

Hi Darrell , like you I have invested in spare parts as it is nice to be able to pick parts off the shelf when something goes wrong or you just want to replace a part. Also you can spot bargains rather than be desperate for a part to get back on the road. As for the price of parts , the low pound is working against us, also there is not much competition in this country.
Had a look on eBay this week and some prices are crazy also some item descriptions are almost criminal. One well known seller is listing 1mms oversize pistons for the 500 as a tuning part to give more power. £150 for the pistons which are just a standard rebore. I did some sums and the engine capacity would be increased to just over 506 ccs
Also lots of parts are being listed as suitable for 500s & 126s and it is often not the case , handbrake cables for instance.
As for carbs if the butterfly spindle is not too worn you can do a rebuild / service without breaking the bank.
When I thrashed my little 499ccs motor for 600 miles down to Cornwall & back it still turned in 55 mpg  [-/

I just checked a front wheel bearing set on eBay as I need one. Well known UK seller £47,95+£4.60 postage.  >:(
Checked Fiat126fan from Slovakia and they do a set for Euro 9.60. What, only 40 Pounds difference? That is nothing. I can`t understand how some of these sellers in the UK to they business. I think it is just greedy.
As Rusty already said the frustrating bit is that I`ll have to order it now and than wait for the post. Next time I`ll be in Slovakia I`ll have to stock up on some spares.
Can`t one of you guys open a spare part shop? Jan???

Price in Poland just over four pounds, Ah! so much profit being made. A return flight is under forty pounds at the moment  :D

Problem is all the people bringing parts over are just too greedy. They are convinced that Brits are all rich  :(
