Title: Proud owner of my first 126!

I've just purchased the '84 126 recently advertised on ebay
so am finally a fully fledged member of the 126 community. [-/
It's my first fiat 126 (I've had air cooled VW's for the past 10 years)
I plan to make her look a little older and classic looking so am after a set of early chrome bumpers, clear indicator lenses, chrome doorhandles etc. and basically anything transferable from an early 126.
oh,and an old roofrack!
I can't wait to give her a service and get her on the road
(really looking forward to slamming her and putting some nicer wheels on her too!)
eventually the plan is to give her a bit more power but I'll have to do a bit of research and save some pennies before then
I'd really appreciate and help or tips on doing this too

I haven't taken any pics yet as I don't pick her up 'til tomorrow!

I collected my new baby today and was absolutely chuffed to find her in better condition than I thought
she in such good nick considering she hasn't moved for 18 years!
Interior is nearly mint and the underside still has factory underseal!
I'm actually now thinking about changing my mind about the mods I had planned for her as she's probably too nice to mess about with and looks sweet enough all original.
I'll have to look out for an earlier one to play with (I can feel a collection coming on!)
Booked in for the MOT tomorrow
Fingers crossed! (I know it will fail on brakes, as they need adjusting, but hoping the list won't be too long)
I'll post some photos once she's up and about and the weather improves

Nice to see some more 126 owners in the south, instead of so far north one needs a passport to get there ;D

Hope it passes and hope you can make it to the rally thing we all seem to be going to, any hassles shout, there's always 20 opinions on everything but you'll get loads of help and advice.

Still waiting to get the beast on the road!!
Getting a bit fed up due to a faulty steering column switch.
She only failed the MOT on tyres, emissions (she has been sat for 18 years after all) and dodgy lights (indicators come on with sidelights, headlights flash etc.)
I thought this was a bad earth somewhere, but apparently not. After hours of searching through spaghetti, I got an auto electrician to check it out who confirmed it to be the steering column switch.
Ordered a replacement from Axel Gerstl which took a week to arrive (due to weather in Germany). It turned out to have the wrong connectors. Needed a switch ASAP as the re-test was due in 2 days so had to order another from Ricambio (Â£58!!). This arrived the next day and had the correct connectors but the wires were in a different order so the indicators and lights came on when you flicked the wiper arm!
Now I've missed the 10 day re-test deadline so will have to pay for another MOT. :( Axel Gerstl has agreed to exchange the switch for the correct one if he has it in stock (finger's crossed).
Really frustrating as I'm itching to get her out on the road.
On the bright side, this has bought me a bit of time to give her a whack with the lowering stick!

Post by: Jan-in-UK on January 27, 2010, 10:35:22 AM: He he, that's all about 126 :) fun with spaghetti, fun with controls engageing what they definitely shoudn't... but in the end of the day some sort of nice feeling when engine purrs and mile by mile you are moveing along motorway. It is worth this stress so wish you good luck :D
