Unfortunately the 126 and 500 distributors are very different! One has a gear drive (126) and the other is a slot type drive (500)
I think the contact points, condenser and cap are compatible though?

I have 126 Bis water cooled. Their are two makes of dist's for this model Marelli and Zeltek. Today I bought a set of points and condensor as standby's. According to his manual nearly every model of 126 differs. Actually these came from England, Intermotor of Nottingham. hope it may help.

Richard, the FSM does not have a distribuor cap as such or a rotor arm. The cap is just a dust cover and inside are just points. The coil is a twin coil which uses the wasted spark method, there are two leads from the coil, one to each plug. If you are replacing the FSM engine with an engine from another type of 126 then be aware the ignition is very different. Of cousre it will work with your new engine but note all the wiring on the FSM lump first and where it all goes!

i have found out the engine mount bolt is 19mm and it needs quite a bit of leverage to shift it :)
also after reading the posts i realise that my questions have already been answered so thank you

p.s one more question will a fiat 500 condensor work on my 126 fsm dizzie?
or i think i have a fiat 126 condensor for a coil type ignigtion will this work if i did have one?
-
not sure re the condenser, I should try your local motor factor before trying yours. So you dont have a 126 FSM distributor then? That funny thing you mention in the photos is the coil btw.
-
hello there just to say i was told it was 19mm . but mine isnt ??
it appears mine is 16mm , so i have sent my poor old father back to his work to get me a socket and along bar for tomorrow night . i will let you know
btw i do have a distributer . i just doint have the domed cap. however i am just going to use a old dizzie cap .
i will check about the consenor at motor factors

boy o boy have i had some trouble with my engine mounting bolt????
i was told it was 16mm . and i tried a 16 and it didnt fit???
i tried hammering it onto the bolt and still no joy .
15 was way too small 16" was small
17 was too big ??
anyhow after about 1 hour of swearing and a lot of thought i magaged to move the blasted engine mounting bolt , only to find it didnt come loose it just span on its axis ????????????????????????????????????????
so i decided to take off the two bolts one on either side of the engine mount, just set back from the mount, and hey presto the engine is now detached from the gearbox
however i now just have to take the back off the car for easy removel of the engine . as lighter it might be but still too heavy for me to lift
are the bolts on the rear left/right had side bumper panel 13mm ??
as mine are well rusted and long bolts?
so guess i need a long socket shaft etc?
anyhelp tonight would be great
please get in touch

Richard I am not sure on the bumper size bolts? But one thing worth getting instead of your standard socket are the hexagon type sockets! They are much better for removing things and they dont round off the heads. Well worth investing in...

hi richard.i dont know if the 126s were imperial patterns like 3/8 and so on :???: ,they might be metric (like 10mm)i dont know but it might be worth a try anyway.hope this helps.
-
its all metric on all 126s

the engine is in , now forgot to take some crucial photos.... but all seems to be well .
i need a little screw, i will get one from halfords, and then tomorrow i am going to test it see if it fires and runs etc etc ?
i do however have some wiring issues under the bonnet , please see pictures at :
http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/riche100/album?.dir=/5ea9&.src=ph&.tok=phydl7DBPNaLKsgy
and tell me if this is what its meant to look like under the bonnet ?? and if so is anything missing ?? as i have a connecter that comes from both side lights/ or indicaters left and right side . to a plug .. but then nothing for the plug to go into ???
im confused, pleas eget in touch

p.s see you in the chat room tonight

also before i forget, i have a wire from the distributer ....
where on the coil does it attach ?
the opposite end to the other wire ???
its a black wire ? and seems to be the olny one from the dizzie ?
any help would be great

hello there, i tested the engine today after installing it ??
serveral problems : it blew fuse number 7 ??
it turned over but was very noisy and sluggish on turn over ?
could it be starter? or if starter was faulty wouldnt it turn??
it didnt really fire ? but not sure if the other problams were stopping that ?
there was power at the alternater even with igition off ( is this normal) and it was sparking (or seemed to be shorting out for some reason) ????? .. i did put copper seal on the thread so the bolt wouldnt seize i future could this have been the trouble ?
the battery isnt too good atall, so cpould this be the reason behind the sluggish turn over ? still doesnt explain the noise does it ?
has anyone got any ideas atall please?
as honestly if i do not get the little devil going i am afraid my fiance has told me it has to go , and i would rather keep it ..
