Title: Fiat 126 Bis - front boot rubber seal
Post by: Amateb8 on November 04, 2009, 06:01:10 PM
I am interested in acquiring the front boot/bonnet rubber seal and the plastic grommets/clips that keep the seal in place. Any sellers?

Many thanks - Amateb

Have a word with these guys, if you buy it in one lengh you can glue it together with rubber glue the type you get in a puncture repair kit.

I am not sure but I might have an old one up in my shed. Definately got a new 500 one but the section is quite different. Also with the 126 you need the front corner plastic bits. They are like a small boomerang with three holes in them & hold the seal in place on the corners. Got one somewhere  [-/

to be honest with the seal in place it holds water underneath and on most cars you find rust has occured due to this if you can live without the seal then do so there is no water ingress if you do not have the seal in place too.

That is a very good point. I sent an email to the previous owner enquiring whether he still had the boot seal. His response was exactly what you adviced. He intentionally did not reinstall the seal as the rust usually start from the seal grommet holes. He actually treated the grommet holes, installed the grommets and painted over them. I looked at it again just now and that was exactly what he did. I may still install a seal though by gluing it in place, as a small section of the bonnet is rubbing against the body work. Mmmm. Or maybe improvise by installing one of those circular cushions bits that you stick under the sofa's feet on the section that is rubbing against the body work. What do you think?

Many thanks!!

simply fit some rubber gromets into the holes use ones similar to what are on the bonnet lid to stop the body and lid rubbing dont use anything that will hold water and stay damp .

I just bought the front boot seal with grommets from the breakers. Another 126 bite the dust.
