Title: Project "lil rod"

I have finally got myself a 126. Purchased last week and drove her home with a big smile on my (and other peoples) face.
She is a 1980 model that the guy bought cheap to do up for his wife, it had a dented roof so he cut it off intending to graft another on. He actually liked it so much he never bothered and then got a divorce!! That was back in 1987 and it sat in his garage ever since.

I have to say I have seen the build photos and he made a good solid job as he was a mechanic at the time. I realise it is not to everyones taste but I intend to do her up as a little hot rod anyway.

This weekend was spent stripping it out to have as my winter project. No doubt i will have many questions for you guys in the coming months

I hope the photos work?

Post by: markymarc on October 04, 2009, 11:34:06 AM: Yes I watched it twice, went and saw it and then made my offer. It is in good nick but will have alot of care and attention to detail payed on it. Got two ideas for it but all depends on funds and time.
I do hope it is liked after I finish?!

As you can see she is going to be smooth with no bumpers and no door handles hopefully in black with an aluminium roof. Capped doors, no windows and various ali and chrome highlighted parts inside and out.

Post by: markymarc on April 19, 2010, 08:13:21 PM: Had an early day Friday so de-greased the engine bay and went to town over thw weekend. Painted bay satin black fitted all black wiring covers, new leads, dissy cap, stainless coil cover and cleaned off alot of white over spray from other parts.

Bolts too short.....bolts too long......TWO wires for the horn.....TWO....still didn't work........bad earth!! DOUH !!

Post by: bis13 on May 30, 2010, 10:47:50 PM: not trying to scare you here but i would suggest using a more manly set of exhaust brackets as i have had experience of obtaining fissures in the down pipes due to flexing at the brackets i have had around four different types of exhaust on my car and all seem to end up with some sort of cracking due to bracket flexing, failure the standard ones even fall apart so i have taken to welding extra metal on them to beef them up.

Post by: markymarc on June 23, 2010, 08:51:31 PM: I used glass resin and a small skim of easy sand filler very pleased with the results.

I also got my wheels back this week from powder coating, not to pleased as chipped very easily on the journey home so gone back. Wont be recommending Impact Coatings in colchester to any of you guys, stay away unless they make a big effort to sort it second time around?!

Finally made a start on the little ht rod 126!!
New shocks all round, cut-down springs on the rear and and reverese eyed front leaf spring with one leaf removed aswell!!

Just to recap on this little project of mine,

1. All arches have been smoothed into a better line now.
2. The roof has been lined up to have one fabricated.
3. Option 1 & 2 for the roof fell through so option 3 is being called into effect (Brother-in-law)
4. T-bars designed and in the hands of local engineering firm.
5. F****** cool door mirrors have been ordered from USA.
6. Many ideas have changed!!

I'm thinking of doing the bay in black too, was always wondering how it would look like so I'm glad you posted a picture. Looks great.

What pricing is there for the powdercoating of the wheels?

I am hopefully back on the lil hot rod project this year and to make a start I have re-jigged 2 stickers to make 1 to go somewhere on the vehicle. A different take on the hot rod pin-up girl!!

I got my top brother-in-law coming next weekend to assist with the roof set-up, stay tuned!

I know what you may think but trust me, once it is padded and covered in vinyl it will be a perfect "carson" top hot rod roof?

I know it will probably upset 126 owners when its done and Hot rodders will hate me aswell but each to there own as they say?!

Work is mad right now so as soon as I get time I will finish lil rod off & get up as many pictures as I can including the exhaust!

I love the bonnet scallops and the metalflake paint and even the Carson style roof. I guess you weren't up for chopping the screen down then. I don't blame you.

Many thanks, you right I didn't want to chop the screen as I'm not that confident!!
The scallops and metalflake is all vinyl, the body work is gloss black.
I will put more pictures up soon-ish?

I know not every one will like what I have done but it was my vision and I have completed it......the pin-stripping was the final job.
