Whilst in the engine bay I couldn't help but wonder how easy an eaton charger (from a bmw mini) would fit... Anyone tried it?!

Nice idea and may work, but only for a short time. the bottom end of these engines struggle to cope with the meagre revs put out by the standard set up. Even mild tuning is pushing it, so to hot the engine up further would require massive modifications in the crankcase to stop the crank splitting as well as overheating issues which would be very hard to control.
This is why you rarely ever hear of a 126 with a turbo, and rarer still you actually see one driving.

I was looking at that unit on e-bay, but I wouldn't consider using it with the standard engine unless I had very deep pockets! Maybe when the 1108 gets put in there ... ;)

That thoughts run round and round in my head before - those chargers can be had for peanuts (or the price of a BIS); there's loads of kits out there for Mini's and the theory seems pretty simple. Has anyone considered a low pressure turbo of a Smart?...oh, and would trying to nail a charger on mean having to use a sealed Carb of something like a Metro or R5 Turbo?

Hi, lost out on ebay on a 126 trike with turbo fitted. The description said it all worked. I also saw some turbo work on Italian 500 sites. See below

what sorta thing would i need to do to strengthen the 'box? this seems to be an easier route than messin about making other engines fit!
