i was gonna ask this the other day thinking that although they are small engines they still might get to 60mph fairly quick. after buying one i barely hit 50mph (although only driven it home) so now im wondering if i CAN hit 60mph </8 */-

I went 120km/h max, i feel it could do a little more but the noise was horrible, and i didnt want to push it, so it can be done, just dont ask how fast, its in the region of 30+sec [-/

my BIS ran best at 60mph on motorway, most economical and was less noisey than driving at 50.

My air cooled sits hapily at 60, less noisy than 50 [-/ but have seen 80 in it although beware of 80... If the traffic suddenly slows in front of you......pray!

my bis 13 was the fastest i ever got in a 126 and got clocked at 92mph once (i kid not). chris do you remember the faces of those who went to wiltshire when i sped off on the motorway?

Power does not necessarily equal fun..... although it helps.
Empty roads: prefer Lotus Esprit, goes like hell.
Nearly empty roads: prefer Lotus Esprit, goes like hell, keeps catching up with other cars, but can always find an overtake opportunity.
Fairly busy roads: prefer Fiat Cinq - you get longer stretches of ragging it before catching up with traffic than in the Lotus. Roads too busy to overtake either way.
Really busy roads: prefer Fiat 126 - it's a sport just trying to keep up with the traffic sometimes. Only problem is that if you come across a slow truck or something, the overtaking options in 126 are limited, although it's great when you pull it off.
I see about 80 on the clock, although I haven't GPS'd it.

yes i remember this, i had four in my BIS that day including myself, we all watched you zoom past everyone in teh fast lane, just saw a black dot get smaller and smaller!!! :D
it looked fast especially when we were doing 65 you were wacking along at over 90! lol
ive not seen a 126 doe sthat speed before, as i said the other day you must get good engines and that was one of them!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets a thrill out of finally being able to overtake something:D I love the little thrill of going quicker than someone with a tiny motor, also combined with the hilarity of what kind of vehicle it had to be before it was slow enough to be overtaken:P

I dont know what my 0-100 time is, but I've done about 125-130km/h overtaking a bus going down hill. that was with stock 135/12 tyres too.

I saw 287kph on my gsxr-1300 speedo when i took my niki around the block. I have changed the sproket on the back from a 45tooth to a 62tooth so the corrected speed would be around 210kmh (130mph). It also still had a bit to go in sixth gear so i rekon my top speed will be in the 240-250kmh zone.
I live on the outskirts of Sydney and did this on a closed section of road (old freeway section to Canberra) and will not do this again unless its on a smooth dragstrip.(Too scarey). These little cars were not meant to do such speeds, the wind buffeting on the screen and the bounce on old shockers was what scared me the most, but it's built now. I guess i'll just have to take it easy on the right foot!
Mick, I'm also looking forward to seeing the faces in the left hand side passenger seat!

My 126 BIS settles to a hum at between 60 and 70 mph but getting there is a bit noisy. On the downhill stretches, it went well beyond 80 mph but did not dare go any faster. It decelerates on the uphill and suddenly found myself in the slow lane, in heavy lorry and bus territory, a bit scary. But the car quickly recovered in speed as soon as the road levelled up - quite fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Captured a lot of curious looks and smiles from other motorists. Some actually cruising next to me or behind me for a couple of minutes before speeding away, as if they not seen a 126 before. Damn (sorry!) it is going to rain this weekend.

I often get chased by youngsters on bicycles!!! I usually play along by slowing down so that they can catch up - great fun.

l was at york raceway back in july and l managed a 0 to 60 in 2.99 seconds mind you l have got a 6.6 litre v8 chevy engine in my car

bens which has a toyota mr2 mk1 1600 twin cam in the back.l am in the process of building one for my daugther lucy with a toyota mr2 mk2 turbo engine in the back.by the way ben was also at york and he recorded a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds

Quite an engineering feat to install a V8 into a Fiat 126. I could not believe it until I saw it myself on Youtube. Awesome speeds. A huge engine in a little shell. How did you manage to keep the Fiat under control and accelerate in a straight line. I am sure you have had to heavily modify the front and rear suspension. Great stuff!!!
