hi there people, i have purchased myself a fiat 126 .................... bis :/ . but anyway its still a 126 and even more important its going to be my first car :D . i have got my test in exactly 6 days now and have all undertanding that i am going to passssss !!!! then i can stand out from the crowd (again :D). when i say again this is because the motor vehicles with i have owned have been - honda cub50 (2 of them)
- honda cub 90
and now i have a fiat 126 to add to the collection. i dont like the norm , infact i h8 it. this is mostly because when i am learning to drive in my instructors car i find that the car is mostly doing everything for me with this fancy power steering system and the amount of buttons of the dashboard makes the car look like a spaceshuttle !. so me being me i think that taking things back to basics is the way forward :D . cant wait to show my mates in their fiestas and corsas what a real car looks like .
many thanks
sam

(-* to the forum, i like the way you think, and youll deffinetly stand out in your bis, throw in a few pics, let us know how she runs... [-/

havnt worked out how to upload pics yet :/ i know that us youngesters are supposed to be the wizkids but i just cant figure out how to. as for the quality of the ride the only bit i can say needs a bit of tweaking is the brakes but as far drum brakes go im used to them ot being too responsive so i think i might just spend my time on finding some chrome bumpers lol. i really want some no matter what the price. head height was a bit of an issue at first seeing as i am a 6ft3 rugby player however this was soon sorted by putting the seats back all the way and tilting them (a lot !) so ive put the back seats down because the only person i could see fitting in there would be a midget. atm i have a wireless radio in there as my stereo which i have owned since the age of 7 . but i did say that i like to take things back to basics :D

Well you're ahead of me. I dont even own a little beast yet. Do you know how much your insurance is gonna be approx? You can see how much mine's gonna be ^^^. i dont wanna be paying over the odds... </3
-
Well puting chrome bumpers on a plasticky bis isnt gunna be easy, first you remove the plastic bumpers but are left with holes in the sides where the bumper mounts for the plastic bumpers used to be (chrome ones dont have them), then you have to remove the side plastic which will also leave you with holes in the doors, so youll have to fill those in and re - paint the whole door. i thought of the bumpers myself but its too much a effort and i might just buy a crhorme bumpered model one day (there are still a few left here).... it would be wiser to invest the money in spare parts, youll deffinetly need em [-/

some1 asked about my insurance and i got 943 pounds fully comp quote from direct line . not from one of those annoying compare sites lol. and as for the bumpers if its really that much hastle then i think im gonna figure out a way to give it bionic legs and arms and teach it to walk me round cos that guide for the bumpers really did sound complicated. you have got to remember i am a teenager all i do is eat, find something to moan about then sleep . :D
-
Your insurance (in the uk) is unbelivably high, i mean if the car was worth 500pounds, it ment you would completely total it 2 times a year for the numbers to add up. i paid about 100 pounds for my yearly insurance...
as for the bumpers, what i wrote is if you wanted it to look like a original chrome bumper model, you could leave the holes in the front and back sides, but you would still have to do the doors... im not a teenager anymore but eating, sleeping and moaning are my favourite hobbys too [-/

Ciaoflyer put some little studs in the holes on his bis. they're black but they're only small so not very noticeable.
(sorry ciaoflyer, I stole this pic from your photobucket)
my most expensive quote for insurance was £7600. they're 'avin' a giraffe.
-
yes but ciao still had to do the doors...
how in the world can you do 7600pounds of damage with a 126??? theres no way you could total a modern car with it, and no 126 is worth that much... im confused
-
exactly. they just don't want to insure me. i dont think i'll be totaling my car 15 times in a year...
yeah, the doors would have to be sorted. i'm not the one to talk to about that though. ::)
you could just filler it then put a spray can to it. Probably wouldn't come out that well.

Filling the holes is one thing, painting it is a different story and a pain in the a**e... why dont you lads do what the top gear crew said, ensure it on your parents?
-
illegal in the uk... :(

yeah i saw that episode on tv. they say at the end how it's illegal, doesn't stop people doing it though. also it goes on a record which will put up insurance prices for life.
my dad's insurance company wouldn't put me on as a named driver because of this.
-
aaa poo :o
well youre a advanced and rich west european country im sure youll manage :P
-
lol, yeah "advanced". i'll try my best.
-
Welcome to the forum,
im pleased to hear youre now a 126 owner! the girls will love it, "arrrr its so cute..." :D ;D
try footman james insurance company, im not sure if they will do a classic car policy if youre under a certain age.
sometimes putting your parents on as a named driver brings down the premium slightly.
Regards
Chris

advanced? maybe
european?yes
rich? all my money goes on a bus pass just so i can get to college and get good grades :( such a sad story. so i got a bike and now cycle 8 miles to college and 8 miles back 5 days a week so i could save up money for my BIS !!! its worked its much cheaper and much more fun than the stupid busman
-
;D Hey Sam all the very best of luck with that driving test [-/
-
yeah, i know how you feel sam, i cycle to school by bike everyday. not quite as far as you (about 3 1/2 miles) but i live in hilly south wales. just done my exams so have ten week hols :D.
if i put my dad on my policy it'll work out cheaper. don't know about my mum though.
saving up with my ema and a part timer to put towards my lessons etc.
-
bah, i drive to college :D (those few times i go anyways) but parking is reall expensive here and finding a free spot is a real pain. my college is in the middle of the city and does have its own parking space, but only for the proffesors >:(
i earned my whole car just by working part time in MickyDs (night shifts) so i know how hard it is earning money and studying trust me... [-/

Hi sam! when i had my BIS last year i insured it with quinn direct (irish company) for about £700 on a provisional liscence, i think once i had passed it went up to £840.something so not too bad, but it's different for everyone i guess.. nice choice in car [-/
