Title: De Bumpering
Post by: Curtis126 on April 29, 2009, 01:15:27 PM
im wanting to soon get a 126 as a project for me to do, i want to remove the bumpers to make it smooth, i heard somewhere that its not road legal if you do so, but i was under to conclusion that as long as there are no sharp edges on shown which could possibly damage a pedestrian then its road legal.

can someone clarify this for me.

mot regs state you must not have any sharp or protuding body work so as long as you rehang your number plates etc and I assume you are smoothing out the body work you shouldnt have any problems.

I have never had the front one off but i had the rear off and it passed an mot without that.  It still had the side mounting holes for the plastic too but i have since filled them in.  Will be putting the chrome one back on soon.
If you want a cleaner look you could consider fitting chrome bumbers instead of the plastic ones.

I took the bumpers off my 500 years ago and never had a problem with the MOT, the only thing they look out for is sharp edges and things that stick out, so if you remove the bumpers then you will also have to take off all the brackets.

It's good to know that people who drive 126's still get to sleep with other people's sisters! Good Times ;)

Actually, on the subject of bumpers and Seicentos, anyone else seen the pic of the General Lee 126p that used to be on wikipedia? It has a Sei Sporting fron bumper :)
