Been to a local shop today and saw a dozen of car fuel and oil additives, there are ones that clean carbs/injectors, stop oil leaks, improve performance and so on. Has any of you guys used these? i bought the one that is supposed to cleand deposits from the carb, and improve performance AND decrease consumption... but im quite sceptical... could be wrong though... :roll:

:lol: I bought a different one that was supposed to have the ladies queing around the block for my attentions. Took it a week ago & just looked out the window & all I can see is a stray cat!
On a more serious note if all those things did what they claimed then Halfords would never sell spanners nor Haynes sell Workshop Manuals

Yeah, i guess youre right... :roll: twas cheap so i said... why not... smalls like kerosene, it maybe puts a few more octanes in the fuel, thats about it...

some liquid addatives do help to clean up your engine but nothing like the claim. the best decoke method i have used was on my mk1 golf and that was to pour water slowly into the carb whilst maintaining an even idle, it takes some practise to get right but does actually work. do you add any addatives to your fuel to make up for no lead in fuels now? as i hope you do as your valves will suffer if you dont.

Isnt the bis supposed to run on unleaded only?
Water into the carb? i suppose it ends up in the engine? isnt that harmful?

the bis is fine on unleaded or leaded, no additives or unleaded mods required.

I think that the additive i poured in is actually doing something, there is a bit more power from the engine. now i doubt that its cleaning the carb or smt like that, it just seams to add more punch to the fuel...

i see on a you tube clip someone added glow fuel to there fuel tank in there 126 which is made for tiny model aircooled engines he put in about 2 half litres then started doing wheel spins and stuff lol
so i thought i would look to see what goes into the stuff methanol, nitromethane and oil. which burns a slightly bit quicker than petrol lol
potentially turning his car in to a methanol drag car heheheh

octane boosters work fairly well but are not cheap
redex and fuel additives im not to sure about
i know that when i put shell super diesel in my work van every now and then i lose power like the turbo doesnt spoil up so i stay clear of anything like that now.

Some additives do work. But don't take them for granted. It's more advisable to use them on old worn engines. If the engine's good, there's no need for additives.
Every now and then, you can pour some injector cleaner into an efi engine. Especially if you use cheaper quality fuel.
People who use dual fuel (petrol and LPG) and hardly use petrol should every now and then use some petrol with some carb. cleaner. That way the jets and other components won't 'gunk' up.
