Title: Replacement Seats
Post by: custardboy on November 13, 2008, 08:29:34 AM
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but wonder what other car seats could be adapted to replace the standard driver and passenger seats.  Something with more back support and headrests?

I was thinking of Cinq/Sei Sporting seats but are there any others?

I don't think any other seat, bar 500/126 would be a direct swap. But loads of people on here have put in different seats. I am using Cobra classics in my 500 (126dave had these in his 126), and I know a few people are using various bucket seats. The only problem with fitting them is that you will have to modify the original runners, to make an adapter or new subframe. I think the best person on here for this is Mick (bis13) as he made an excellent subframe out of an old set of 126 seats. If I remember rightly, he posted up some instructions on how he did it. Have a look through the search and you should find it

Thanks for the advice.  I once fitted Citroen BX Gti seats to a 2cv so am used to making up subframes and the like.

I too like the original seats and seems a shame to rip them out but I am 6'5" and there is not enough support, I'm practically on the back seat as it is!

I understand.

p.s. a few minutes after writing that im in need of springs, i went out to my car, sat down, and another one broke!!! Will this ever end??!!!
Im now down to 4 out of 8 sitting springs and 1 out of 4 backsupport springs....  :???:  :???:

p.p.s. pete here put new mini seats into his bis (he apparently doesnt want to show off...  :D ) so i guess anything is possible....

I must be lucky as all the springs seem intact on my seats and they are ok comfort wise but I had to sit bolt upright driving on motorway when I picked the car up, if I recline into the seat I am on the back seat!

I saw the mini seat conversion that and the car are very good,  plenty on ebay from smashed mini coopers, but I am concerned as to what you do with the side airbags they all come with?

 I had some broken springs on my seats and thought it would be a problem then my neighbour threw out an old armchair and I noticed that the springs were pretty much the same type . Just had to cut them to length using an angle grinder. Seats now fine plus a couple of spare springs just in case.

I have been driving the 126 for a week solid then got into the passat last nite...

Man my 126 needs new seats!

It felt like the passat was a gold fish bowl, so many unmisty windows and seats I could go to sleep in!

I managed to squeeze a set of nova GTE seats into my 500 (needed them for a very long journey)
Tight fit, but it was worth it, i guess anything up to that size would fit ok.

The Mini one/cooper seats bolt directly on to the floorpan after removing the original seat runners, no problem with the side airbags cause they arn't plugged in   :)

You could try to weld the seat springs. It's not as if they're coil springs from the chassis....
