Hi,
Anyone know how to identify the colour of the car using the chassis number? Anyone who's restored one probably gave it a new coat of paint, so if you tried to get the same shade as the original, then how did you go about your way finding the correct colour?

It is written on the plate with the year and vin number on it. under the bonnet on the left if I remember right.

Ah, ok, but i was wondering how to decipher the chassis number :) I'm sure the letters and numbers have some sort of meaning.
Anyway, it's an FSM Fiat, so the number is as follows:
SUF126A0009040853

Any suggestions?

i think also the paint code is on a silver sticker inside the bonnet lid

Don't know about that. No stickers there for sure. The only factory sticker that's remained, is the one on the air filter, but it's faded and worn off. I'm sure some of you have made minor touch ups on the paint work, and getting the right colour is important if you want it to look good.
Further suggestions?

Hello mate,

The paint code has nothing to do with the chassis number other than it's stamped onto the same plate. On my car, which is a Polski, the plate is under the plastic mat in the boot, the left hand corner as you look at the front of the car, under the windscreen. The plate includes the chassis number, a few other numbers and the paint code (3 digits on my car).

If the plate isn't there use this chart to help find it-

You can order the paint through the website that provide that chart-
http://www.carpaint.co.uk/automotive_paint.htm but I would recommend that once you find the code you take the car to a paint mixer. When I did the geezer told me there are 3 different shades of the same colour and matched the correct one with the paint on the car. If you order from the website they can only guess the correct shade.

Is he confusing the bonnet and boot? In the front not the back.

for clarification i always call the front bit of a car that opens the bonnet, regardless of what is in there..... :cool:

Thanks for the tips. Since mine is a left hand drive ,my chassis number is on the right hand side of the boot, under the mat, but it's stamped into the chassis. I'm sure there's a plate of some sort, haven't looked in there in ages, but ok so i'll go see a paint specialist. Thanks guys.

hehehe its worse here in MY, on a normal car, they call the boot the bonnet and the bonnet is called a hood..... :roll:  blardy foriginers !! (joke)
