do the aircooled and watercooled car have the same gearbox????  will an aircooled box mate to a water cooled car and vice versa, or are there differances with input shafts, clutches, and flywheels etc etc??? thanks

Different bell housings (which are interchangeable) & different diff ratios (also interchangeable). Ran a Bis with a 500D clutch so I guess that the flywheels are pretty much the same.

thanks for that, i am after a 126 to play with engine conversion, not sure what engine i want but i have a chance of a gearbox from a bis which i can play about with, your answer at least lets me know that driveshafts etc are the same so whatever engine i hook off the back will at least be able to connect to the car, i am fortunate enough to work for a fabrication company with laser and waterjet machines, and cnc machining and fancy a project, i like the look of the fire engines that people hook up, but i drive a 1993  micra every day and that 16v motor is brilliant, compact, light and might possibly be able to strap to a fiat box, thanks for your help,  Mark
