Howdy folks. New to the forum but not motoring forums. I've had all sorts of transport in my 25 years of motoring but getting more unconventional all the time.
I've recently took on a new job not far away and wanted something to keep me dry when too wet to take the Honda C90 to work. After spending elndless days on ebay it was a 126 that took my eye. I've driven one in the past which bought back nostalgia when looking more into them, so I've now settled on getting one. Period!
I'll be bidding and scouring looking for the right one (preferably white) and no doubt will be asking advice along the way. In fact my first question would be, are they illegible for the £35 road tax :smt102
One question at a time so thanks in advance to anyone who answers that one, and I look forward to chatting more.
CS.

Hi mate, welcome,
To answer your question about tax, no. I've just bought a 1978 652cc model the tax is £120 for a year or £66 for six months. I pay the same for my 1400cc Renault Clio, how ridiculous is that?
This government like to squeeze every last penny out of us.
Don't let that put you off though.
Steve.

Cheers Steve. Jeesh we could get political eh? I really don't understand it either, but seeing how Smart cars get it aren't they a similar cc :smt102
I also know there's an application process but perhaps one or more of you guys have been through this?
Thanks again Steve :smt023
Chad.

Welcome to the forum Chad, hope you find a good one.
I think that every car since about 2001 has had a CO2 rating and the road tax gets lower the less polution they cause, but before that there is no rating so our cars are taxed at the lower rate as Steve said.

Welcome to the forum chad, I'm also on the island and have a white BIS.
Small world eh? :D

Ahh that 2001 thing. Understood. Just a shame they don't look at this again and include all years under a certain cc.

Hi Nathan. If you go to events I'll be interested in hooking up once I have the car. I'm starting a 3 day week as from next week so I'll have plentyof time to play and get some miles under my belt. If you're interested let me know.
Hello! :smt006
Yo-cro. Looking forward to more banter amongst the boards.
Thanks all. Time to go make some posts!!

Hi again chad, yeah that would sound great, as i haven't met anyone on the club yet.. although that will change hopefully!
The only other 126's i know of on the island include a scrappy BIS that was once on wightbay and a faded red one in Ventnor
Do you have your eyes on a certain car?
Let us know how it goes :D

Hi again,
If you fancy an air-cooled this is the sister of the car I just bought.

It's in Bournemouth so not to far from you.
Best of luck, Steve.

That aircooled looks superb and seems great value
-
Hi there,
Southampton-er here, if you ever over the expensive piece of water let me know, hopefully my 126 will be done soon.
If not might see you at a meet.
-
Welcome Chad, my son.
I'm just a stones-throw away in Poole, and Ian from Blandford, Dorset has just got mobile with a manly Aircooled.
It looks like the Southern Posse is swelling in numbers.
Good luck in your quest for a pukka example.

Hey Norman, What do you mean by (manly aircooled)

Ian only bought his Aircooled a week or so ago, but has already manned-it-up by lowering the springs all round. He's not one to hang around.

Thank you guys. Be good to hook up once I've a car in hand and looking forward to it.
Subvert I was considering a left hooker for an extended Europe leg but haven't made my mind up yet. If you have it in a roughly 6 weeks I may well be interested in it just for trips away.
Thanks again.
