so i bought this a few weeks ago. it was running and my dad did an ok 20miles in it getting it home. i then found the cooling system was becoming pressurised, and my pap told me the head gasket had gone. then i came on here found all the history of the bis and its unreliability.
but still i'm here to learn and get it on the road again.
so whats the real problem with these cars?
i've heard its bad design, bad components etc but still not sure of the real reason??
here she is;

A 126 was my first car too :D and the head gasket went :sad:
I was young and the olds thought it best to sell it and get something more reliable, so I did.
Looks like yours will last to tell a different story :smt023

the issue with the head gasket is down to the thermostat being at the wrong end of the engine, you can buy a kit that resolves this issue from ricambio - apart from the engine they are no different to an air cooled... and they are grrreat!!!

If the thermostat is the problem, why dont you guys remove it. i have and there are no problems, none at all, sure it takes a little longer to heat up, but thats due to a choke malfunction... so far it worked for my bis -18 years :)

Welcome Brother.
Your Bis looks in tidy condition. My first car was a manky old Talbot Horizon for £200. However, it was a real mate, and lasted me for about 7 years.
Good luck with your new motor.
