I am looking at buying a Fiat 126, and I want to ask some questions before I do.
I just want to know what alloy wheels can I fit (pictures would help)? What performance exhaust do people recommend? Is there a performance carb ro something? They would be the only bits I would like to change engine wise.
Is there a roll cage for one?
I am going for the rally/race car look. No rear seats or carpets.
Anyone do anything like this?
John
P.S. Just been reading some other bits on the forum, and have found out that the prices on ebay are alot. So anyone know of a good place I should be looking for one? Plus which one would be good for a first time car owner to do up?

Firstly a very warm welcome to the club forum!
Its very difficult to tune a BIS from standard parts, but you can in fact do anything you like if you have the know how, i.e. camshaft, custome exhaust, alloys are obtainable, K&N airfilter is a start and easy to put on.
Have a look at Roman's BIS: http://www.fiat126.co.uk/sendpic.html 4th car down the page!
With alloys you will find you will have to have the stud pattern drilled! to suit out cars! Not a problem though they are very cheap anyway.
There was a BIS fully kitted out as a rally car on ebay, heres the link

a lovely car! hope all this provokes some ideas m8!

I like the look of the black one, but I would like better wheels. Can you get mini wheels on them?
John
-
Not easly, mini wheels are 101mm pcd and fiat wheels are 98mm pcd (the stud pattern is the big problem!) VW and vauxhalls have 100mm pcd wheels btw.

Have you heard of minlite? they are the style min's have on the coopers etc.
Scroll down to the second car on the below page; http://www.fiat126.co.uk/sendpic.html
Barry got these from a company up north, they drilled the stud pattern for him, he paid ?90 for all 4, are these the min styled alloys you are looking for?

Yep. There the ones.

Whats this exhaust like?

Works out at ?134.58. Good price I think.

I am looking at two aircooled 126's on ebay at the moment.
Can you tell me the difference between the aircooled and the BIS.
I want a aircooled. As I was reading the tuned section last night. They are easier to tune (just going to chage exhaust and airfilter, if I get one).
John
-
The cars are very similar, except the bis is noticeably faster! But your right, they are nice to tune, the aircooled models and they hold their value, if anythingare increasing very well!
Everything they did performance wise for the 500, goes on the 126 aicooled!!! And there is alot out there!!

I would like the first one more. As its really nice. Wouldn't change a thing if I got that. I bet it will go for alot.
Near where I live. They do a weekly car auction. I may try there, for one also.
Can't drive yet. So it will be my first car. Been into monkey bikes for the last 3 years.

Bit of a silly question, but. Do the Fiat 126 have drum brakes all round?
If they are drum brakes all round. Can you get finned drum brake covers like they do on mini's? Like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-sport-superfin-alloy-brake-drums-fits-cooper-1275_W0QQitemZ7995843467QQcategoryZ23013QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Or a disc brake conversion for the front?
Thanks
John
-
HI John, yes drums all round! and i dont think you can get those drums with fins, however im sure it would be easy to have fins welded on???

Chris

Front disk brake conversion kits are available for the 500 and 126 models. They are fairly expensive and they are a must if you uprate your motor!

What size alloy wheel are people putting on there Fiat 126?
As I am looking round at fiat uno alloys, but they are 14". They seem too big.
Plus how much for buckets seats (plus the brackets)? As I am 6ft 2" and I don't think I will be able to drive one.
I was reading something about a 6ft 3" driving one with the sun roof open and his head poping out.
John
-
Thats the strangest thing I was looking at Uno turbo wheels yesterday, bads news is they're too wide. The widest I ever put on a 126 was 13x5 the Uno ones are 5.5 inch  But here if anyone knows better let me know as there is a set here that I could use (on a perminant loan basis of course)
-
Im 6ft 3" and can fit in fine. My feet are a bit tight tho! (im only size 10)
Bucket seats range from ~?100 each for crap ones to ~?300 for 'as good as you need for a road car' ones. Be careful that you measure first tho 126's are quite small if you havent allredy noticed!
You can adapt Uno disc brakes to fit if your clever 8)
I could make some ally drums but its a waste of money imo
-
Your feet are a bit tight. I am size 13!
I will have to see if I can fit in one before I buy then.

I am going for this. I have rang him and he says that the front valance and battery compartment need replacing.
Where do I get the replacements and for how much? Its J reg.
John
-
Ive got a Genuine fiat front panel forsale (to fix the valance) im asking about ?40ono due to there rearity and the possibility that i will need to use one myself one day! :)
-
you can also get pattern panels from here http://www.carpanels.co.uk/index_catalogues.htm
You can get them fron germany here
https://ssl.kundenserver.de/shop.fiat500126.de/indexa.htm
(looks uber cheap but im not sure if it works out that way in the long run)
-
I thought the 126 BIS part would be east to get and cheap. As its not that old.
I am looking at the diagrams for the battery holder, and it seems that part will be expensive and hard to do (I don't plan on doing the welding).

This is a aircooled one, isn't it?
Just noticed it got no MOT, and your not able to view before buying. Sounds dodgy.
John
-
YOU CAN VIEW BEFORE AUCTION ENDS
you misread :)
yeh its aircooled (hence good) :D
-
I think hes changed it. I sware it said, you are biding to buy not to view before the auction ends.
