looks like the usual "will do it up one day" cars to me.
-
probably still fetch a grand+ on ebay
-
Looks complete though, I like the ice cream tub under the front to catch oil leaks
My guess they will tell me it is not for sale, but worth asking, who knows?
-
ouch. that'll take a lot of work
good if you get it for the right price though
-
Does look complete. Nice one for doing up over the winter!
-
Did you ever get this dajwd?
-
did you ever get any info on it in the end?
-
At last!!! spoke to the owner this evening.
He is looking for the grand sum of £100, without the numberplate as he wants to put it on his campervan.
My wife will kill me!! >:(
I have no room :-
-
No room??!? It's only wee! You could put it in the bathroom as an ornament until you have time to restore it ;)
-
Omg, 100?? thats nothing, id buy it even if i had to put it in my room >:( :D :D
they want 1000€ minimum for a 500 that looks like it sat on the bottom of the ocean since it was made... i say take it and run :D
-
he cannot sell it to you without the number plate as in order to transfer a number plate from one car to another you must have both cars with a valid mot if he wants the plate he must recommision the car!!!!
-
Great news as the number plate is really good.
I will let him find that out ofter we have shaken on it.
I am going to have a prod about the car this weekend then meeting him again early next week.
-
ooohhhh.. so cheap!! a car like that would already be worth multiple thousand dollars here.. I wish i had your luck.
-
That is in about as good condition as mine, and I use mine every day! Bet it wont take much to have that back on the road, especially with your 126 knowledge [-/
-
For that sort of price it is definitely worth it. Well even the complete rot boxes on eBay go for around £500,-
It looks like it will need complete re build. If you good with a welder and bodywork is not a problem, but if you have to pay for it, is a different story. Had a quote last week on the 126 to do couple of dents and respray and it was a bit of a shock to me...
Anyway let us know how you getting on with it [-/
-
Been and had a look :(
From the kneesdown it is totally rotten. The seat runners have fallen through the floor. corners where floor meets the inner wings have huge holes, outer wing bottoms have gone.
Car is totally complete 54000miles 1 owner from new.
Here are a few pictures. Warning not for the faint hearted :-

Floor
2 Doors ??
Sills
4 wings
engine rebuild (or a spare 650)
Thats before the mechanincals
-
It does seem indeed that you will need to put in a lot of work, but again, for that price, id take it, you can always store it somewhere and start it once you had the $$, good 500 are hard to come by, and tend to cost A LOT more than 100 pounds...
p.s. me thinks, that you could get a 126 el engine, and stick it into that baby, and me thinks it would be awesome ;) [-/
let us know what you decide ;)
-
Id make sure you weld in some brace before you move it or cut the old floor out to ensure the shell doesnt twist...but it looks like a good basis for a resto- Ive seen far worse!
-
Yeah, it's still worth a hundred pounds. the motor is probably still usable or at least fine to rebuild. you have a complete dash and everything which alone is probably worth the hundred pounds. My 500 is in far worse condition than that one is, if it makes you feel better:P
-
If you don't want it then I would have it, plus a drink for you [-/ [-/
-
If I decide against it, I promise it is yours.
-
Your biggest problem with restoration would be the roof, its one of the few areas where there are no replacement panels available so new sections would have to be wheeled up to match the existing contours and let in. It looks like most of the outer panels (wings, door skins and bottoms, rear quarters, bonnet , inner wings etc need replacing along with the floors. It is a big job, I know because I'm mid way through rebuilding my 500, but (with the exception of the roof) is within the capability of most enthusiasts, so you should be able to do a large proportion of the work yourself.
If you take it on I would be happy to point you in the right direction for parts and so on, otherwise like I said, I would be interested myself.
If you want to talk through whats involved, give me a call on 07778 766881, would be happy to help

At £100 a bargain!! I would buy just to give my Giardiniera a mate to sit beside!!... :D
-
100,-GBP = 111,-EUR.
Now have a look at what i shot for 200,- EUR 3 weeks ago:

I don't need it, but the price was unbeatable. 500L. Engine runs, car is complete and everything works. Only brakes need some overhouling. And the floor has the usual probs. The 500 had a few years out of order in a backyard, and so it looks. I'd like to drive it "rat-style", but my wife does not really agree...But this is not her beef, she's got her giardiniera!
Seems like the trend goes to 5th car...
To your 500: I'd cut the roof of and plant some geranium into. 500 in this condition have to be a "N" or "D" to be worth to be saved.
-
You guys have no idea how lucky you are, the 500 is VERY rare in croatia, so this is what we got, look at this ad, this piece of crap for 674,57 €??? :(
http://www.auti.hr/oldtimeri/showAdvert366598.html
-
Yes, very sad! How the hell can the geranium be prevented from falling through the floor... </
-
500 in this condition have to be a "N" or "D" to be worth to be saved
blasphemy!!! anything can be fixed, in my opinion ANY fiat 500 is worth saving.

i have to agree, but if i lived in italy i wouldnt care, for example, when i was in triest i saw about 50 of these cars just buzzing around, i bet they cant be bothered with crappy ones...
-
Defo any 500 is worth fixing, but perhaps not if you gotta pay someone to do the work... ;D
-
It's just a 500, so what? Anyone who wants mine? Am looking for a 126 sunroof-body!
-
"JUST A 500" ?!? thats just like saying its just a Maseratti Quattroporte, or its just a Buggati Veyron... :o
-
I can understand your position. But yours has another background than mine. In Germany the 126 has become the rare car, all the years people collected 500 and 126 where worn and kicked off. Sure, the 500 is a nice car, but there are much more of them than 126. As you may know, in Germany we can have a "Historic registration" for 30 year old cars, which allowes driving into economic zones and an equal standard tax for those cars, not depending on capacity or performance. You can recognize this by the "H" at the end of the number:
(http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/3474/wildschweintreffenmai09.th.jpg) (http://img25.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wildschweintreffenmai09.jpg)
But this registration can be denied, if there are too many cars of one sort. This concerns the VW bug, f.e., and in some areas the 500, too.
Plus, all the years there came 500 from Italy and floated the market. I really can't see them anymore... >:(
Actual ebay.de-quote 500:126 = 12:4 :-X
-
12:4?? wow, i understand now.. here its like 126:500 = 50:1 or more :( thing is that most of the 126es are the fsm-s made in the eighties so theyre not that old to be a oldtimer... the original fiats are as rare as the 500
-
In australia the 126 is much rarer but it's the early 90's version, and they have a kind of poor man's 500 feel about them. dont get me wrong, I love my 126 and I'll keep one for the rest of my life, but I'd definately drive a 500 if I had the money.
having said that, the 126 is much more commonly seen on the road (up to 5 sightings in a year!:P) because very few people drive their 500's every day compared to 126s.
-
Andi. How much are you wanting for me to clear the plentiful 500 from your driveway, giving space for more sought after 126's..... [-/
-
andi, what's a steyr puch 500 worth there?
-
Puch go for double price, in all conditions. But i wonder, if this is worth it...
500 in the condition as mine go for 800,-EUR (680,-GBP).
Lindsay offert her RHD-William, in which i'm interested, but she doesn't answer anymore. If she'd sell it to me, you could bring it over with your trailer, and then my 500 goes for 500,-EUR (425,-GBP)!
-
hey andi, just wondering are there any steyr puch 126es left, i had a feeling they were more powerfull than the fiat ones, but ive never seen one in person let alone driven it... :-
-
yeah theyre meant to have around 30hp against the standard 24.. they sound REALLY different too.. judging from videos at least:P it's cos it's a horizontally opposed twin cylinder instead of inline..
I'm also interested in hearing about those from you andi.
-
My dude has a Puch 126, but he is very disappointed about the performance, although he spend a lot of money for engine-rebuild and professionell setup. The onliest superlative of this Puch is the sound: It rattles like a can of shells...
-
aside from the motor, what'd different about the puch 126? any difference in trim or anything?
-

The Steyr Puch engine, coupled to an auto box, was also used in the blue disabled cars that were around in the 70's. Unfortunately they were all owned by the government and leased out, at the end of their lives they were all (but a few) destroyed.
