Title: Sports steering wheel
Post by: jpimpao on June 15, 2007, 11:35:03 PM
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a Sports steering wheel to fit right without any modifications on a 126 BIS.
Thanks

Almost any aftermarket steering wheel will fit when you use an adaptor plate called a 'Boss Kit' with it mate. The only firm i Know of that make such a kit for the 126 is MOMO, and the boss kit alone will cost you around £40. This makes it  at least a £100 to buy both parts from my local motor parts store; too much for my liking. check the diameter of the wheel before you buy too, because some are 15" across and not very far from your knees in a 126. you might try other fiat models though. check in your local library in the Haynes manuals for the right type if fitting. A 30/32mm nut if memory serves me correctly.

Expensive yes, but would come with the right boss.

mountney do a hub to fit the Bis, mine was about 16 quid but that was last century, the wheels are cheap if you look around, my wheel (brand new leather) cost a fiver in a clearout at a local auto factor. a couple of quid for the fiat badge of ebay and you come up with something like my avatar. You could go the momo route but it costa lot more, but if you decide to i've got a 308 GT horn push that would look peachy on a 126 (i got it for mine but it would not fit the mountney boss).

hi if you look at my pics in the garage section you will see my BIS with a astrali wheel fitted to a mountney Boss, also in ebay you can get a momo style boss kit for £15 if you just search under fiat 126 there always on there and try to stay with teh same diameter of wheel for best feel

hello?
Title: boss and wheel choice
Post by: meuton on August 26, 2007, 09:01:05 PM
yes that boss will fit your fiat but you would require a small centre wheel such as a Momo, Raid, Personal, sparco, omp etc not a mountney wheel as they require a larger centre boss which they make so it all depends on you budget prefernce etc and yes i beleive 13" is the diamter of the origional wheel

Also do you think it would work to recover it in bicycle handlebar tape?

that wheel looks as if it is made to fit straight on the shaft without a boss.

to save money on my deville i just cut the spokes of the original boss and drilled it to take an aftermaket wheel.

It's too small for the fiat!  Do you mean cut up my Bis wheel and mount the middle to the new wheel?

Also, can anyone identify the make of wheel this is, the only marks is the horn push cover -

don't think it would wortk with the BIS wheel as it is a different design than the earlier cars.

My car is a Bis, I mean cut the spokes off the centre of the wheel and bolt it to the centre of the replacement, this could work?

if you have a spare wheel you could try it, but if not i wouldn't, a standard wheel is way better than no wheel at all.

not sure of the make but I'd guess it was for an old ford - I had a 5 star horn push like that on my anglia
