thats low and it looks good.
dont want it any lower than that though
-
Awesome dude. Might be coming to work with 126group2 next year for a while!
-
that looks fab, whats the ride like tho?...mine harsh enough already with what i've done, and im not getting any younger.............
-
that can only be like riding a pedal bike with one pedal and no saddle.....
-
thats not good, might as well take the tyres off
-
hmmm rear is very stiff, on fast corners it rides well...
NOT FOR POLISH STREETS
I would like to make cultstyle- most popular kind of tuning in germany -> http://www.cleaned.be/gallery/gallery.php?cat_id=154&action=images
-
i really like this style too valentino thats what i would like to try simulate with my car!
-
Tomasz, what is 126group2?? I havent heard about that, yet..

hey Valentino, did you just cut standard rear springs to get so low?or are you using some other springs.......id like to lower mine some more to see how it rides but dont wana cut my uprated/lower coils,i have some normal ones to cut,so how much to cut?,i guess i could cut and try,but its easier to get some info.....thanks
-
yes, I cut stock springs. Each spring has about 15 cm heigh now..
-
ah good,i'll give it a try,is that 15cm on the bench?.
im doing this becase my lower front spring has settled, and now the car sits assup
-
 well, cut them to 15cm,worked a treat, sits with neg camber all round now and rides and handles well, thanks valentino :smt004

Dave
Was it air cooled or BIS springs that you cut down (is there any difference?)
How much did you cut off?
I have just had my rear arches on the 500 rolled so now have the extra clearence to lower.
Did you have any problems seating the cut down spring? Presumably the springs are stiffer now they have been shortened.

hi Nigel, well, interesting that you ask if any diff, the bis and aircooled i have looked the same, but could be different ratings,i used bis ones(better nick),and with the spring on the bench, i measured 15cm and cut them,it works out around 1 1/2 coils,i then ground down the cut end for a seating area.
it does seem stiffer, but that could be ''sticker '' tuning.....you know, all in the head.....................but it deff goes thro the turns better,no hint of tuck in now, with the lower front end(reverse eye/cut blocks and the neg camber top links) i had it started to turn in quick and catch the back end out....thats now gone, all in all a good mod,and my turbo 1 sport -30mm coils will now be for sale.....good for some one who just wants a mild lowering
-
how much u looking for?
Nigel
-
with lowered suspension do you/should you adjust the rear tracking?,i assume fiat did not allow for continued use at what is fully loaded (perhaps more) suspension hights?...both my 126's have jiggled on wet roads when one or other of the rears goes over a slippy drain cover,as if there is too much toe in...........it does not inspire confidence to push on !! dry is perfecto tho.....
i should add neither car did this before being lowered
-
the only thing i would think is to replicate the angles that were the original but with the lower suspension but that will probably not be achievable so its a case of finding the best of both worlds . when you think about it the level that the car is sitting is not a workable height as this is really a show car height and is achieved by lowering the coilovers that they fit to get this height however when they actually drive the car the coilovers are adjusted to a sensible level .
-
mm yes,but the 126/500 must be drivable with low suzzies?..plenty people have done it,including a certain mr abarth?,this is old tuning, nothing new,i just wonder if its the old sell them the stuff dont give em the details trick..like panda head/sport exhaust/cams.............im happy to share the details,it seems many are not :???:
i reckon there is a tried tech with this,id love to know.....a sweetish handling 126/500 should be easy to achieve,(allowing for the rear weight bias of course) if the info was availible as is for escorts/minis etc....
-
i agree with what you say but the amount that the car has been lowered is way below any sort of abarth height. look at any race car and you can always see all the tyre if you go to low you just loose any movement in the suspension and as you know makes the car jump and skip all over the shop. nearly all the peeps who sell after market coils only go down to about 17cm and they are uprated if you cut down a stock spring to 15cm it isnt going to perform well. but on the bright side they look uber cool so get down to your local fast food outlet this friday nite
-
thing is,i was using normal lowered springs before, only now am i using realyy cut down rears..........................both types gave me the jiggle.......
-
well in that case it must be that your a crap driver.... :D you can adjust the rear but its a nightmare i have a few manuals that explain the geometry but its all for standard height so you will have to recalculate as the height will throw all the angles out are your back wheels sitting toe in ? my suggestion is to take your car to a garage that has all the electronic equipment and get them to adjust it all exactly to how you require it used to be about 50 notes a few years ago and you get a nice graph printout to put on your wall of your garage to boot.
-
me prob just a crap driver mick !!!...... :D

beautiful job mate!well done!
-
Wow, thats really nice. What method did you use for lowering?
-
Ahh i just looked in the garage section. Thats impressive. Im going to be lowering soon i think but i think i will buy the complete kit as im not sure i trust my mechanical skills enough to do anything homemade!
