Hi, I have a problem starting my bis. I have checked the spark plugs, the carb and distributor. I also brought a new battery, which i thought was a dud. So got got my brother to give me a start with his jump leads and it started. I took the battery back to the shop and had it tested, but it turned out that there was not a problem with it. So why would my car start with the power of an additional battery? Could it be that my starter motor is on its way out? It seems to start okay, once its warmed up for a minute, but if its left over night then its very difficult to start again. I'm new to mechanics as you can probably gather. :???:

hi,you could try checking the earthing of the starter motor, also, both my bis have suffered from oil contamination of the starter motor due to gearbox input shaft seal problems, this knackerd both good starters, they would work with an exter jump tho.....and it also bolloxed both clutches  ............hope you've just got earth problem or suchlike.........

How did they test the battery?
The only true test is a drop load test, which puts the battery under load if there is a problem it will show.
I have had in the past had the battery just checked with just a multi-meter, which is a waste of time!
Can you borrow a good battery for a few days to see if it's better?

i agree,we drop load them at work, with special kit that shows bad cells etc, could be that.....multi meter tests are a waste of time, only show the charge rate really.........
