anyone know how to fit a temp gauge to a aircooled?
is it easy?

In '92 I bought an electronic temp. gauge with digital readout for my citroen 2CV (air cooled). It consisted of an instrument measuring
15cms x 8cms x 3cms and 3metre length of cable which connected into the instrument at one end and dangled in the cooling air
at the other. The instrument fitted somewhere within sight of the driver, was battery powered and worked like a charm. I subsequently sold the 2CV but kept the kit and fitted it to my next car which was a 126 aircooled. I drilled a hole in the top of the cooling casing adjacent to the thermostat position for the probe end entry. One day I was driving along on a very hot day when I noticed that the temp. had shot up from 95 to 150 deg. C. I stopped and discovered that the flexible cooling duct supplying cooling air to the fan had dropped off and the fan was drawing it's air from the engine compartment which was very hot. The kit had paid for itself !. The bad news is that it cost £80 in '92.
                  Another method which I tried is to buy a small angle dial thermometer (as used in domestic heating systems) from your local plumbers' merchant (like Plumb Centre), remove the pocket, again drill your hole in the top of the cooling casing and poke the stem downwards leaving the dial looking upwards. Cost
£10 - £15. The problem with this method is you can't see the temp. from inside the car.

very interesting,im in the procees of ditching the air intake hose altogether.............thats quite a temp leap eh???...........

hello banjomandolin,

As a current and very enthusiastic 2CV'er may i say good choice of cars all round, but buy another 2CV as well :-)

And as for your name, what sort of mandolin are you liking?  Im a huge fan of the Garcia&Grisman  mandolin/banjo work :-)

i agree!! fantastic cars,had 4,brand spanking cream and deep red dolly,two charlstons one grey one red,and the currunt one in the yard,red left hooker charlston........that superb motor,really shows the Fiat a/cooled up in my opinion.........also had an HY van at the same time................. :lol:

Ohhh I had an HY too a 1981 SWB normal bodies 1911cc petrol one. It was PINK :-)


As for the aircooled 2CV motor, yes, its simply the best aircooled engine evr made.  35 BHP in best forms, from 602cc and capable of propelling you and 4 passengers at 70mph all day long.

It's actually a "Musikalia"  roundback tenor mandola but I have had all sorts over the years. I also have a Clifford Essex tenor banjo which I shall be putting on e-bay shortly. It needs work though. I already have another 2CV, my 4th. I alternate, 6 months on on the road in 2CV, Bis on sorn, then swop over. Bis and 2CV rule o.k.

I also Have a White 2CV Special, she was my first car and still gets used every day.  I also own a yellow Bis, both great cars!  It's wot motoring is all about.

Oh the joy of 2cv ownership.My first car was a 2cv.The mates and myself spent many a night as teenagers swapping chassis and gearboxes while listening to tango in the night,Steve Winwood,maybe and taste of ELO and a spash of Clapton.I remember going down to the local Citroen dealer (it was W.H.Connellys then)and pricing new ones.They were wild dear (I think £3500 for a special compared to £2600 for a 126 bis.Thats a lot of money for an apprentice :lol: ).The guy who owns the charlston in the pic is a good mate of mine,he also owns a special with 3000 miles on it :shock: an absolute minter.By the way what are the chrome bumpers of as fitted to your bis?They look the part there fella :D

Hi yes bumpers fitted are Mini, I modded them to fit!!  I would like some aircooled bumpers but they are very hard to get hold of!!  Lets post some more pics of Fiats and 2CV's together!!
