hi
my 126 has a small problem. when trying to go over 60mph he cough and splutters as if there is no petrol if i drop below 60mph he then runs fine.

dont know whats up with him any body any suggestions on where to start?

you said fuel pump is ok, could be timing, mine goes lumpy if i  do 30 spot on, it only happy over 40, sounds like either timing or carb.

the fuel pump is fine he will cruise happily at any speed below 60 but soon as you hit 60 thats when probs start

It could be many things?

The first step is remove the distributor make sure the bob weights are not sticking and give them a light spray with WD40, new set of contact points and condenser reset the points with the distributor out, it's easier!

Replace the distributor and check the ignition timing. This often cures many problems and is cheap to do and you know that side of things is ok especially if you have no history on when it was last done.

If it's still misfiring you can the go onto other causes such as more ignition checks, fuel problems, valve clearances etc

well i changed the plugs and cleaned the point etc and it didnt cure the problem so this afternoon i removed and stripped the carb and dipped it in petrol to give it all a good clean out cleaned the jets and the float put it all back together and took it for a good blast on the dual carriage way and he got up to 70mph with no problems at all fingers crossed that seems to have done the trick!!!
