Title: mixed hubs ??
Post by: richard on September 10, 2006, 12:00:03 PM
hello there does anyone know if it matters if your hubs are mixed??

i know mixing different brake shoes is bad ..

what about hubs though ?

just ive snapped two wheel bolts off so far in two different after my ape of a mate tightened wheel nuts for me ...

i told him a 500 doesnt need much atall to be tight.... he didnt listen ...

i have a box of spare hubs in my shed you see. and could easily clean some up with my grinder and majic brush ..

and just swap them over.. rahter than going to trouble of taking broke ones off and taking to work and asking for another two favours to remove like last time ?

BTW , NEW ONES NO MATTER HOW CHEAP / EXPENSIVE ISNT A OPTION AS IM SKINT ..    UNLESS DONATED FREE FOMR SOMEBODY ...

Richard, the broken wheel bolts are easy to remove from the drums.
If you look at the back of the drum you will see some threads sticking out (as long as the bolts have not been cross threaded), and will probably unscrew by hand, if not use pliers or a centre punch to unscrew the sheared off bolt. I would suggest you buy a torque wrench, you should be able to pick one up for about £15, it will come in handy while you rebuild your 500.

You need hubs in matching pairs. I've 126 on the front and 500 on the back. I've a couple of 500 hubs here if you get desperate - but it would be cheaper to remove the broken studs than pay postage. Looking forward to seeing your car on the road.
