Title: Can Aircool replace watercool
Post by: piffd on August 31, 2006, 07:14:59 PM
I have a buggy which has a water cooled engine (or rather it did) can I fit an aircooled engine without changing the gearbox.  I can't chnage the gearbox because the drive shafts are welded to some cogs that drive the chains to the other wheels.

Also I will have to change the starter motor - are they the same?

Any ideas welcomed.

Thanks.

I haven't tried this, but I think if you have the aircooled bellhousing you can keep your BIS box. However, you'll notice a lack of torque as the aircooler is less powerful and will struggle getting off the mark. An aircooler engine and box is popular for buggies, but obviously unpopular in fiat clubs unless its come from a severely rotted donor...
