Title: Alternator adjustable mountings 126 air cooled
Post by: jacw on August 27, 2022, 05:56:06 PM
I have an alternator with shim style belt tensioning. Can I change this for an alternator with adjustable mountings on a 126 air cooled engine.

My apologies if I've missed a post on this already.

Thanks,  John

The short answer is no
The long answer is that the alternator and coolling fan are bolted together so the fan/alternator assembly must stay in a fixed position relative to the air ducting.
Why would you want to anyway - the shim system works fine (IMHO)

That's a clever way of making it adjustable and a great looking bit of kit.
However, it seems to me it's an expensive way of fixing a problem which doesn't exist.
Approx 8.5 million Fiat 500s & 126s built over 40 years used the shim method............
