Hi guys, hope you're all good......so I've had a front wheel brake binding, so I've got set of new shoes, two slave cylinders and two new drums......thought I'd go all out and replace the lot....so I've managed to get the binding brake drum off....was a pig to do...the slave cylinder had seized. I've replaced both sides but on the off side the drum is dragging and very difficult to turn... there's no way it'll drive like that it'll bind up within the first hundred yards...I've tried to manipulate the shoes in case they were not sat right. I've had the drum on and off but can't seem to get the drum to run freely...is there anything that need to be done with the automatic adjusters to allow the shoes to move in slightly???
The second issue...bleeding the brakes....I've used hose clamps so the reservoir has remained full, so theoretically I only need to expel air from the flexible pipe and slave cylinder on each wheel...I'm using the conventional method.....pipe on nipple and submersed in fluid to prevent air drawback...can I hell get the peddal to firm up....I thought by getting pressure then when the brake shoes are pressed against the drums they would Aline and therefore not bind. So any advice on the dragging/binding drum and method of bleeding the front would be much appreciated....thanks.....Nigel..

There is a chance that you may have an airlock at the top of the pipe where it connects to the master cylinder so start the bleeding their, just loosen the connector get someone to pump the pedal and shut it off once fluid starts to leak out, then the near side front (farthest away) and then front offside

Thanks Pete I'll look at that, any thoughts on the new drum binding its as if the shoes aren't aligned or far enough in to clear the drum...ive had the drum off more times... .messed about with the shoes can't physically see anything untoward....it must be to do with the position of the self adjusters I can't see it been anything else.....thanks again Pete..

Once you get the brakes back you need to adjust the brake shoes this is done by driving forward and stamping on the brake pedal and then the same in reverse do this a couple of times then check if the wheels are free

Ok Pete will do....I'll going to have another go tomorrow....thanks again for your advice....

My advice would be make sure the shoes are clipped in properly top and bottom, springs should pull shoes in although you may have a weak spring, shoes could be off centre side to side or up/down, so push them in towards the hub by gently levering between the back plate and friction material using 2 screwdrivers (use packer), this should push the shoes together to give enough clearance to get drum on, the shoe actually moves in every direction about the round fibre washer/spring thing fixed in the shoe when fitted over backplate pin, very basic self-adjuster but very effective. Once assembled do what Pete said to adjust the shoes up driving stamping on the brake pedal.
This might help aswell.. http://club126uk.co.uk/club126uk/forum/index.php?topic=11925.msg85283;topicseen#msg85283

Hi Andy, they're all clipped in property mate, I've replaced the retaining pins /clips and new shoe springs so things should be ok on that front....I think you're right in what you say, I think they must not be centred properly.....I'll have a go at what you say I'm sure it's that....can't be owt else really....I've fitted new everything..thanks for your help Andy....
