The trouble with adjustable reamers for king pin job is that the flutes are not long enough.
The bushes must be reamed inline, this cannot be achieved if the flutes are not long enough.
Hope this makes sense?

I have seen some screwdrivers that can be fitted on the end of this reamer. My friend made a tool of something that looks like that. He just welded a bar horizontaly on top of it and I used it to do my kingpins. I think the screwdriver came with an rachet set.

that will be fine, i've used one just like that, you will need a micrometer to set it up correctly. you also need a tap wrench to turn it with (as in tap and die, not faucet).

To do the job properly they should be reamed inline as picture below. This will ensure that the the two bushes are perfectly parallel

what size do they need to be reamed to?
cars is right it is of upmost improtance that they are reamed inline. Theres nothing wrong with the adustible reamer aslong as it is long enough (it looks asthough it would be too short tho tbh)
I have the kit to hone those out i think which is a much better method. Would happly look into the cost of an exchange basis re-bushing service if theres interest.

The bore size needs to be 15.016 to 15.043mm. This is for 500s and early 126s. The assembly changed a little for later 126s, but I *think* the bore size is the same.

as Paul suggested and others have recently, depending on the cost we should buy the reamer with club funds, and then lend it out to club members. Again we need to have a look at costs first, any ideas on a 1st/2nd hand reamer?
then again, we could just fit a whole new stub axel like Dajwid said, but i still dont know if an early 126 SA will fit a later FSM model? and what about a BIS stub axel they have to be the same as the late fsm aircooled models.

In that case a 15mm warmed up a bit reamer should suffice. :lol:

I think I've solved the reamer problem. A local reamer maker (Taylor and Jones, Huddersfield) makes pilots for expandable reamers to make them suitable for kingpins.
Complimentary to the Adjustable Reamer is a range of Screw-on Extension Pilots designed to meet the demand for an attachment which makes easier the use of the conventional Expanding Hand Reamer when line reaming on such jobs as king pins and piston bushing. The Screw-0n Extension Pilot is supplied complete with a double-taper sliding Cone Bush and replacement Collar. When using the Extension Pilot it is essential to ensure that threads of both the Reamer and the Pilot are clean.
The method of fitting the Pilot is a simple operation carried out by removing the front adjustment nut and replacing it with the plain collar with the internal chamfer facing the blades. Screw on the Extension Pilot and replace the sliding bush using either the long or short taperwhichever is the more suitable for the operation in hand.
For inline reaming of two holes, seat the tapered cone supplied into the second hole to be reamed and pass the Pilot through the first hole and locate into the Cone and commence to ream the first hole, to ream the second hole reverse the procedure

Picked this one up on ebay for £5. H6 is exactly the right size at its smaller setting: 15.08mm

They also do a 19/32" (15.08mm) non-adjustable hand reamer (Ref:B05100593F) that has flutes 8.7cm long and a total length of 17.5cm. Haven't compared that against a stub axle yet but it sounds promising.
