Hi there,
Already reading for months now on this forum. Much more info then on the dutch sites to be found here !
I'm about to buy a Fiat 126 and therefore i found it to be time to register and properly introduce myself here. My name is Jarno, living up north in the Netherlands.
My daily car is an electric Renault Zoe which I use for business, our family car is a Ford Focus Wagon Ecoboost. I have driven al lot of Fiats in my early days like a panda Mk1, Cinquecento sporting, Punto GT Turbo, Bravo HGT, and a Alfa 147. The last one was a Diesel and it went downwards after that... ;D ( children and stuff that comes with them )
But now is the time for me to enjoy a small Fiat again as a project car. We have got a small isolated garage for the car were it can sleep comfortably.
More details about the car hopefully will come in a few days. I will keep you posted !

It looks nice en it also drives nice as wel. But it didnt last...
My quick analyse tells me the alternator does provide power but it does not charge the battery...
Any suggestions were to start ?
Car is on transport towards my home adress and wil arrive tomorow.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171112/f7c5c3549b15f3c51384537f10a833da.jpg)

Check the alternator brushes, check the fan belt, check the battery. ;)

Finally, she's in my garage...
I will start a project thread on this forum soon.
First have to sort out the alternator issues.

Why is it that whenever anyone on here posts a picture of "my garage", the garage is immaculately smart, clinically clean, and generally indicative of someone with a well-ordered life, completely in control of their cars and their lives, at peace with themselves and doubtless they sleep well at night too?
Whereas with *my* garage... fortunately there's so much junk and detritis in it that usually no one can get in to see what a midden lies within... life is so unfair ...
PS: nice car !!

Some work on the little fiat has been done.
A new bendix in the starter motor resolved the rattling and some cleaning on the rear brakes. Oil pressure sensor had a bad electrical connection. Also the indicator lights needed some cable management.
Still got some issues with the alternator though.
It looks like it produces 14 volts with only the multimeter connected when engine is idle. But when the alternator is connected to the battery it reads 12,5 volts which is the same readout as the battery itself... It just levels out. Regulator issue ?
Any suggestions ?

Hi jsj regarding your alternator issue could it be a bad earth to the battery?
-
I did check earth resistance because I had electrical problems. But I measured excellent values so that doesn't seem to be a problem.
I think I connect a new lead from the alternator to the battery directly and see how it goes.

Hi
have you tested the amps output?
you have to put the amp test meter within the wiring circuit, if done wrongly it blows the amp meter :o
the clip on amp meter is easier. :D
you might have volts, but need amps to push volts.
if memory serves the battery is 40 amps so the alternator should be rated at least 40 amp
if (lead acid) battery has no distilled water in it can give same issue.
wear goggles and gloves if investigating battery, with a hydrometer.
hope this helps

Thanks, i have a clamp meter also. I think i connect a solid temporary lead from the alternator to the battery and measure the amps.
