Title: ok a strange question, re 126 bis

  hi there
do fiat 126 bis distributors (watercooled), have rotor arms?? its a flat top plastic black cover rather than the ht wires coming out of the cover on the red ones

now thinking perhaps they don't have rotors arms,  there is nothing to receive the sparks in the cap  :$ :$

 looking for the rocker cover / valve cover fixings now, removed a long time ago ::)
are they special chrome nuts or ordinary like the rocker shaft torqued nuts below?
only remember the ordeal in removal of rocker / valve cover while engine was in car. not the fixing spec.
 ;D
final question before sun comes up, is Castrol gtx 15w 40 oil ok for the engine?,

Hi fixit no they don’t have a rotor arm as it’s not needed. The engine is known as a “wasted spark” type. It’s a very simple system and makes time one up very easy. Basically both pistons go up and down together in unison and the coil fires both spark plugs at TDC but only one cylinder will be on its compression/ignition  stroke. The other one is about to start it’s induct stroke but sparks anyway but this spark has no effect hence why it’s called wasted. If you ever come to change points you won’t need to search for cylinder number one as technically there is no number one as any of the two can be classed as “one” so long as the pistons are at TDC.

You’ll be fine with castrol gtx 15w40. Any 15w40 mineral or semi synthetic oil will do and if your unsure which is which just look at the container it should say on it. If you do an oil change it’s worth investigating how to clean the oil filter out. It’s in the crank pulley and often gets over looked :thumbup

 spinner pulley is clean ;D amazing really how simple that is, but works  ;D
 filter in sump clean too.
just the rocker cover to fit ;D

No problem :thumbup oh the rocker nuts are just standard 13mm (can’t remember the thread size) I used Nylock ones. You’ll need to use a fibre washer as well or the oil will weep out from the nut.

You have a filter in the sump?

 found the nuts they were in box under flap ;D wondered what those fibre washers
were for in gasket pack

well sort of a filter, its the pick up for the oil pump, a metal mesh,
to cover the resto quickly, the water pump seal wouldn't seal, water was on the floor, the water oil pump shaft was worn right where the seal fit,
 allowing water past, and out the hole,

to fix bought the shaft with oil gear on, the alternator
had been wiggling before my ownership damaging the sump hole
 so to fix all bought a new sump it had the water pump seal installed, fit shaft and moved the pickup to the new sump.
at this point discovered the big end bearing and caps were worn so replaced, then replaced timing cogs x chain, in the refit found the oil centrifuge pully had split so a pre used part was sourced,
tried to fit the sump, found wouldn't fit, and before could continue illness caught up, lots of time has passed but the dream remains ;D

luckily put little drop oil in cylinders before storage so nothing was seized.. ;D
started on gearbox

 before re- turning back to engine
found the timing case seal was cause to sump not fitting, and using a blade carefully cut off the overlap, all fit.
fitted clutch today aligning using a round fork handle  ;D (not 4 candles  Ronnie Barker  ;D)
sanded and sponged on hydrate 80 on the valve cover  ;D will be ready for paint tomorrow,
the aim is to keep doing a bit each day as the issues allow.
