Just picked up and drove 130 miles home in my aircooled 126, drove faultlessly but have a few questions for those who know these cars well......
It is a 1999 aircooled and looking at the polish documentation it is described as a elx kat. I presume this would have had a catalytic converter, looks like a regular exhaust but does have what appears to be a mounting for a lambda sensor but blanked off? (Tried to post photo but photobucked appears down at the minute)
The passenger wing mirror is not staying where adjusted to, feels loose. Is there an easy fix?
I see the lever for the choke and next to it the lever to let heat into the car. On the dashboard a pull lever which has the air to windscreen symbol, what is the one next to it with a circle on it?
This is a LHD which I don't mind in the slightest, is there a source of RHD headlights?
Should be all (for now!) 👍🏻😀

Pull lever with the circle is to let cool air in.

If it's a '99 ELX, I would think it should have a Cat from the factory, yes? - I have a friend in Poland who has one in Blue (also a '99 ELX) and his has a Cat.
Maybe the Cat was shot in yours and the previous owner replaced it with a similar non-Cat exhaust?

How can I tell if mine has a cat?

AFIAK - if the exhaust has a Cat, both header should connect before the muffler (i.e. at the "back" end with the tip at the other end).
If it's a non-cat car, the rear cylinder header connects at the back of the exhaust, and the front header connects at the front of the exhaust (on the same end as the tip).

Thanks Dagleykd,
So going by this photo my car has a cat. Looks like the lambda sensor mount is blanked off, I was under the impression a lambda sensor is needed for MOT?

Hi, I've just had baptism by fire having just bought/imported/UK Registered 2 polish aircooled 126s one a 1999 Maluch city - Mauchs were not fitted with cats..... As mine failed its MOT on emissions....due to never having a CAT fitted.
1999 ELXs were fitted with Cats.... If yours has a valid MOT and passed the CAT emissions test then it has a cat fitted,
I haven't found any Fiat RHD headlamps yet.... Bought beam deflectors for both of my 126s for £5....
Kind Regards Nick

Hi as far as im aware the cat option was an optional extra at time of purchase from new, ive also got an 1999 ELX and i dont have one fitted, besides theres no point having the 02 sensor in the down pipe if its not connected to a control unit along with the single point injector instead of the carb , to pass mot on emissions just needs idle air screw adjusting
ive never had a problem when its been MOT'd
regards

Well exactly. A lambda sensor is for fuel injection.
Did Fiat 126's every have fuel injection?

Thanks Nick/Ron,
My cat is looking a bit rusty and I'm sure that they are rarer than hens teeth. I think I will take it off after the MOT, paint it with high temperature paint and put it in dry storage till next MOT. Any recommendation on a decent sporty sounding exhaust? Any issues with taking cat off?
