Title: Hello there!
Post by: Zer0D on June 08, 2006, 09:22:40 AM
Hello to all the members! I've browsed around a bit, and figured I'd say hello. I currently don't own a 126, but am looking to get one. Perhaps with a little help from you guys even!

Now, I'm a bit of an odd position, especially when it will come down to aquiring a 126. How so you may ask? I'm in the United States. Ever since I saw my first Fiat 126 in a magazine, I've been in love with the little buggers. Though I'm somewhat unclear as to how to go about getting one, or even how much it would cost. I myself am a fan of small cars, the problem is, is that they're not small enough over here XD I currently drive a 1984 Nissan Pulsar NX, everyone around here thinks it's really, really tiny. compared to a '73 126 (I imagine later years didn't change much) it's a full 42inches longer, 10inches wider, 2inches taller, and the wheelbase is 28inches longer.

Well, I hope to obtain a 126, and I hope to become friends with you guys.

hi,welcome, you should keep an eye on international ebay,i've seen two 126's on there in Canada........(also,interesting to see how many spares are posted on there that are in the states) that would be an easier option than importing from europe?.
i know what you mean about the size,a while back i had a chevy S10 blazer, small to you guys, but over here was still called a yank tank!!!.....i do like my american cars though............

You're probably right, the only real though I would imagine it'd be a little easier for you to get one in Ireland than it would be for a half irish mutt in the US : P I did find one up in Canada but I haven't been able to get ahold of the owner.

You wanna bet, like hens teeth. Two factors have conspired against the 126 over here, one, the mot(annual safty test) has killed a lot off and the tin worm has done the rest :D.So where are your roots from over here?

We have something like the mot, though the emissions test is a bit more tight. As for my roots, I'm not too sure, I didn't want to pay for the geneology  report : P

Oh yeah, what's "the tin worm"?

Our emissions test would tighten your wagon too! They test the catalysts and oxygen sensors.Poor old diesels get a particulate test which means the tester revs the pills out of the car for a full minute. The dreaded tin worm is another name for rust matey :lol:A handy way to check the geneology is to down a pint of the black stuff (guinness) and if you like it you can't be that bad

Look at what I found. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FIAT-500_W0QQitemZ4648706468QQihZ002QQcategoryZ6218QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) The only real problem is that I have no money right now (just paid bills) :'(

We get the same emisions testing too, It's kinda funny, depending on the state/city you're going to they may or may not let your car in. It's weird.

Looks nice, rust in the normal places. $1500 is lot of money going by prices in Europe but I suppose not many about in the USA.

Go for it. The ladies will love it

The only problem is I have $100 available to me, and it's 1400 miles away >.>

$100 would't even get you a scrapper in Poland.
Be realistic. You have no chance of getting a 126 for that money. I thought you were a serious member, not a joker.

I don't recall saying I was a joker, I said i had $100 available to me, rent, utilities, food and the like eat quite a bit of my paycheck. I am 100% serious about getting a 126. I said in my previous post I has just finished paying bills when I found the car on Ebay.

@Paul: I would but I don't drink....or smoke.....or take drugs of any kind (pain killers, cough medicine, etc...). I might give Guinness a shot though :)
